Please do not do it. Goldfish are the most common victim of this practice. If you keep big fish in small tanks, or think it is OK, please do a google or yahoo(or any search engine) search for "Fish Stunting."

I know... I don't know why I wasted time posting this either. These people who spread their false information seem to go out of their way not to learn. They never respond to threads like these, and when you post links to good informaiton, they ignore it. But there is always a chance I might be able to convince somebody to do some research of their own. Even if I only can convince 1 person to go do a search, that's 100 less lies being spread.

yep fully agree, fish stunting is a problem, but i guess as long as petshops sell them and they are relatively cheap then it will go on and on and on.but then is it any worse than a hamster or a rat in a cage ? these animals live in huge burrows and if the makers think a rotastak is an equivalent then they are thick as chit.a hamster or a gerbil is a cracking pet if you get a four foot extra wide tank and quarter fill it with soil peat mix and add natural logs for them to chew so that they can burrow and live as they do in the wild.but fish in a tank should be no more than tropical that are small in the wild and so can obviously live well in smaller enclosures.anything smaller than 4 foot six in fish tanks should be labelled as an aquatic prison.

I agree...people on here often talk about their 2 bala sharks in a 20 gallon or their 5 goldfish in a 5 gallon. So sad.

This post is a nice gesture, but nobody even cares - they believe what they wish to. Just yesterday somebody asked what she should put in the fish bowl, and she ignored nine people who told her goldfish are not good for bowls and chose the one that said it's fine as the best answer - some people are looking for good advice around here, but there are too many idiots who simply want the answer they are looking for. To us it's 'stunting', to them it's 'growing to suit their environment'.
