My son won a common goldfish (1.5 inch) during a school outing to the state fair. We got a 2.5 gal tank for it with pump/filter. We've had it for three weeks and it paced the tank and seemed either agitated, lonely or bored. Three days ago we added 3 small cardinal tetras (.5 inch each). I turned the light off last night, all seemed well. This morning, all three tetras were dead. All three were badly mauled. I think I have a killer goldfish. I wanted to give it company, but now I'm afraid he'll attack/kill anything I add. Would a betta be a safe addition? If not, what would be a suitable tankmate for him?

i have a 50 gallon tanks with 4 goldfish (2 small ones) and a common pleco (unfortunately i got it as a newbie and should have done my research!). I have recently got a very poweful external filter to improve my water quality. The tank is heated as there is a big variation in temp in the room and the so the temp is now constant at around 22-24 celcius, i was concerned at first but the water temp cant get any colder because of the room and although its not ideal after a year the fish are healthy and active.

I want some schooling fish or something interesting with a bit of colour, have considered minnows and zebra sanios but they are just too small and will be eaten! any suggestions, the local fish places havent got a good selection of goldfish, would I be ok looking at tropicals eg tetras or other danios? or what about giant danios. I have considered cory's but think the goldies would bully them too much. Has anyone else had any success stories?

I got these fish (3 of them) from a friend and they are abt 1 inch in length. They are freshwater, body is orange in color and their fins are transparent but yellowish. Their belly is silver and they have 2 prominent horizontal white stripes running across the body and even right up to their tails. There are also white stripes on their anal fins. Some of them are brighter in color and have longer fins. These fish are pretty active swimmers, and I guess my camera just couldn't catch up with them. Anyway, pls help bcos I wonder if they will go well with my neon tetras.

here's their pics, kinda blurry though, sorry.

I have a 60 gallon tank, with huge black mollies, silver dollars, some tiger loaches, and sword tails. My friend recently gifted me 2 Melanochromis Auratus. They are around 5-6cm in length. I was wondering if they would harm my other fish or not? I researched that these fish are aggressive. But, is it possible that my tank thrives healthyly with these auratus' around?

I have one male Betta(about a year old) that has stopped eating, rarely moves around and lays at the bottom of the tank. When he does move, he seems to have trouble keeping balanced or will float on one side or just float to the bottom without moving fins or do a nose dive into the gravel. I noticed him spazing out a few times when he is at the surface. He also seems to be breathing heavily. I've done a 70% water change, added aquarium salt, coppersafe and one tablet of tetracycline (just started tetracycline treatment today and will complete) as I'm not sure if it's a parasite, bacteria, or both. Also, the carbon has been removed from filter so the meds aren't removed from tank. I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way as I have no clue what could be wrong/what I'm dealing with. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Specs: kept in a 10 gal. tank (not a community tank) with power filter kept on lowest setting possible, with heater, feeding (or fed, rather) freeze dried bloodworms.

We recently just got 2 green barbs to go with the 2 tiger barbs. Everything was alright at first, but then one of the greens started to hang out around the top of the tank. Knowing that this was not a good sign. I scooped it out and put it into some clean water. It died shortly after. The other green was fine, until today when we replaced the dead one. A few hours after we added in the new one, it also bellied up and died (did the whole hang out at the top, can't keep itself upright thing). The other green barb started to belly up as well, but seems to be doing somewhat better. It's still very very weak, but it's not floating at the surface any longer and looks like it has some str back.
What keeps going wrong?
All of the fish are in a quarantine tank that I do daily 50% water changes in (tank isn't cycled) to keep the ammonia down.
The regular tiger barbs are absolutely fine... but these green ones just keep dying on us.

i want to breed rosy red minnows. how do i tell the gender of minnows? what size do they have to be to mate? whats the ratio of males to females? can i breed them in a 10 gallon tank? how many minnows should i put in a 10 gal.?

I used to have blue gouramis and i wanted them to mate just to see what it would look like. But i think they both were either male or female because all they would do was fight and bite each others tail fin.

Ok I have a 55 gallon fish tank and 4 algae eaters. I already had 4 bubble eye gold fish and 2 plain gold fish and a cat fish lol, but surprisingly he's very sweet and doesn't pick on my other fishies. So anyways I bought 15 guppies and put them in there. They were fine until I put a large algae eater in there. I got him from my fathers friend and a week later my guppies started dying. I was thinking that it could be the new algae eater that I put in there with them because they were fine until he came along. I wish I had a good picture of him because I know there's different types of algae eaters, but I'll desribe him. He's dark gray, he has a tail like a sting ray and quiet frankly he's plain ugly, but it's like he freaks out when he spots something floating in the water.. he's quiet entertaining. So I wish I knew what kind of algae eater he is. Can someone tell me? And do you think he's the reason my guppies are croaking over?

It is a small goldfish, a normal 2 inch variety. It was near dead, then we changed the water and it started breathing. Now, it can breath, but it breathes floating at the top! It tries to go back down and straighten itself, but then it starts floating again! Before we changed the water, my mom stuck 8 of them in a container big enough to hold one, and I got so mad I could have hurt someone....grrrr.....Maybe it hurt on of its fins? HELP!?
