You need to show your mom that you are a responsible person. Goldfish are a very difficult fish to take care of. They're not the easy fish people think they are. So, start doing some research. Read up on how to properly take care of fish. Show her that you understand cycling water. The nitrogen process. Proper filtration. Proper water changes and tank and substrate cleaning. Appropriate plants for the tank. How to choose compatible fish and how to determine how much water each fish needs for their size and buying the correct size tank. How to identify diseases and how to treat them. How to test the water to make sure it is healthy for the fish. And then you offer to get a job or do chores to pay for it all. If you show your mom you care enough to do research and learn about every little detail and are willing to pay for everything, your mom would so much better understand and be willing to let you have fish.

i agree with the answer somewhere above about keeping your room clean while tank is cycling. I just got a Betta fish. They do cost money (all fish do to start up) so maybe do extra chores around the house, save your allowance. Defiantly RESEARCH the fish first. I heard goldfish are dirty. Try researching Betta's. See if you like those fish better. I love mine. good luck!

best way is to prove to them you're responsible enough, that you'll do it all yourself, and that it's something that you really want, not just a spur of the moment want.
do some research, do a presentation all about goldfish care, what size tank they need, your favorite kind, compatibility, diet, water quality, fishless cycling... ect. then make a deal with them. something like cleaning your room and keeping it clean for a month usually works. during this month set up and cycle the tank so it will be ready for your new fish. is your room isn't dirty then offer to do chores or something like that. something to prove to them that you're serious about wanting the fish and that you're willing to work for them.
good luck! here's a sites to help you jump start your research:

Goldfish don't live very long... Beta's are actually my favorite because they live fairly long, ( longer than goldfish lol ) and they are really pretty. But whatever you do, DO NOT EVER put two in one tank!!! One will eat the other!!! And make sure to have a tank with a lid, because they jump. Very high. Mine literally jumped OUT of the tank! And if you do get more than one, you can get a special tank that divides in two, instead of buying two tanks :) But to convince them, just show that you can handle responsibilities, like do more chores maybe.
Hope I helped!

That's probably why they won't let you have one. My cat used to deliberately knock the air hose out of the fish tank, then sit there and stare at the fish as they floated to the top. Needless to say, she quickly became an outside cat. But the crawfish we had in the tank eventually ate them anyway. That was 14 years ago and I still haven't had another fish, mainly because I've always got cats. Lots of luck!! Try the whole low-maintenance thing.

You used to have ONE but they ALL died or got eaten?
I'm guessing if they got eaten you had more than one... So this time just get one... Goldfish can live solitarily and so can bettas... You don't wanna get fish like zebra danios or barbs who like to be in groups and then keep them alone, they will die of loneliness.

If you really want a fish try raising up money that way the parents would think they don't have to pay for anything.

Tell them it will make you happy, you will clean the tank, and it is something very easy to take care of.
