Fish - February 2007

Hi, all my life whenever I saw an aquarium in someone's home, I noticed that they had a air pump running putting bubbles into the water. Now I bought my 1st brand new Tetra Care 29 25 gallon aquarium. It came with everything, the hood with light, power filter, heater and thermometer. Everything except gravel, water and fish and AIRPUMP !

I assumed all aquariums needed an airpump. So I read through the instructions. It said that the water flowing back into the tank from the power filter disturbed the water surface enough to put oxygen into the water. What do you guys think?

Do I need to go buy a airpump or not?

i just bought a goldfish 1 day ago at petsmart.there was about 20 or 30 fishes in the tank and it looks pregnet any sugegestions?

ok so the male is sitting on one side of the tank
and the female on the other
he has his nest done and sits at the bottom almost waiting i guess
every maybe 5-10 mins he gets some air chases her and then goes back to "sitting"

i watched my female where she cant see me (put a towl)
and it seems she only comes out of the corner when i come near the tank
is she hungry and wants food from me?
she is going near him under the nest but once he "gets up" she runs away and only comes back out when i watch her

how long will i have to wait for them to breed finally?

10 gal tank
heated at 81
small corner filter
5 inches of water
and one plant

(so now one asks)

my convict cichlids had eggs on Saturday. how long till they'll hatch? and when i looked inside at their eggs they were all a brownish red color, but a couple of them we a white color, did these eggs have a fungus on them or did they just not get fertilized? and can i put a bio pond filter in my huge size fish tank. (300+ gallons)

Two of our fish had blown up looking cheeks when my dad got them..........i asked my dad...but he said they're fine........week later one is fine and the other one still looks like O^-^O.......i know thats not its original form...whats wrong with it?...it does not seem to be in pain

I don't know the name of the fish but its small (1inch). It is orange on colour with black stripes runing down the lenth of its body. It just started to get like this a couple of days ago. The fish is just swimming by the heater and some times on the bottom. It will still eat but it is not as active as it used to be.

I was wondering, because I have well water, and I was wanting to know if I could use that for angelfish. Does anybody know of a website that has information about the type of conditions the tank is suppose to be in example Temperature, any type of conditioner, etc. and also the smallest tank to have angelfish in?

I have a large saltwater tank and at the bottom and on the rocks there is a film, now quite thick, of red slime algae. I have many hermit crabs and snails but they don't seem to like it. The algae is like a deep marron color and has the texture of like a slimy material. If anyone has any suggestions on how to remove it, it would help a lot.

What is a good combination you can get easily find for a 20H (25 gallons) tank. I know everyone will say thets your prefrence, so I like tropical fish. Frogs are ok,but no snails. Bright colors are great. Iwant a sucker fish too.

I got two snails two days ago. I got a gold and a ivory at petsmart, they have not come out of their shell yet. im worried that they are dead, I put them in a 5 gl tank with convict cichlids and their babies, and the convists keep on picking at them, they just lay there, the only movement they get is when the fish bump them.

My little sister put took my male betta out the tank. I told her to put him back in and she held him REAL high above the tank and dropper him. The back of his tail hit the aquarium and he fell in on his side and now he is just laying their and his gill is barely breathing he is floating on his side and won't move what is going on??

i have three guppies, 2 females and 1 male in a minibow2.5 [yeah I know too small of a tank no room right now] a few days ago my male got ick and so I separated him into a fish bowl and treated him with quick cure and did water changes he now shows cottonlike webs on fins and open sores, in the mean time one of my female guppies [the yellow one] was ready for birth so I moved her to the hospital [minibow1] she showed small signs of ick so i treated her as lightly as i could with 1/4 to 1/2 the meds, she successfully gave birth to 25-30 healthy fry and so i moved her to the other temperory hospital tank, which is a small betta bowl, she will soon be moved to a bigger tank.
my other black/gray female who is also pregnant is showing signs of ick in the home tank [minibow2.5] should i place both females in the home tank and treat them there? the male has been completely removed to a different tank how should i go about treating him? please and thank you for the help!!
