I have a betta and I think adding a snail would make it cleaner

Nunya Biznis and MM are right. a bowl (or anything without a filter) will not be able to support a betta and a snail. snails are VERY dirty. if you want the water to be cleaner get a tank big enough for a filter. a heater would be a good addition too.

If your betta tolerates a snail depends on the betta. Most will, but I do have a betta named Snail Slayer. You'll want a mystery, or apple snail as they can get air from the surface like betta.

As far as making the tank cleaner. A snail might make it look cleaner. He'll eat missed food, algae, and even the solid fish waste. The amount ammonia/nitrites/nitrates are based on how much food you put in the tank. A snail won't effect the speed toxic chemicals build up in your tank. (This assumes you aren't adding extra food for the snail.) Also snails can't take as much ammonia/nitrites/nitrates as a betta.

How would adding another thing that craps make it cleaner? Adding a snail would only make the water more toxic that much faster. Go get yourself a 5 gallon tank with a heater and filter then think about getting a snail.

ajj- are you loopy??? Goldfish choose 20+ gallons! besides, that sounds great. I agree that bettas are possibly the sole fish that isn't attack the snails- they're additionally exciting to observe!! enable's see... in a 5g with snails you're waiting to place a guppy or 2, yet no longer with a betta in there additionally. So your selection- guppies and snails or betta with snails! stable success!!

You can but you shouldn't. The bowl is probably just big enough to support the betta and adding the snail (another living creature) would probably push the bowl over it's limit and cost you both animals.

Yes you can. Snails are inaggrssive. Just make sure it always has food. Keep some algae wafers at hand in case none grows for a bit. You should get a simple snail.

It won't make it any cleaner, but it won't hurt anything to add a snail.
