Convicts are South American Cichlids from the Amazon River. They will not get as big as a Oscar but with enough room they will get to be about 6-8 inches. They can be VERY aggressive so if you put them with other fish the other fish need to also be aggressive or bigger than the convicts.

There are several species known as convicts. The most common Cryptoheros nigrofaciatus gets 6-8 inches and should be housed with only their own species. They need about 40 gallons for a pair and they need caves and other decor they can hide in and around. Hard water is best with a pH from 7-9. They area really easy fish to care for.
