Any breed of fish will eat it's own young. There are always exceptions...i had a large female get out of the holding nursery on the side of my tank and swim with the newly born fry without attacking any of them. Of course she was very mellow for a guppy (an escape artist too). It depends on how large your nursery tank is to determine how soon you can introduce the fry into your community tank. The larger the tank, the faster they will grow generally. When i had a few fry in a ten gallon tank i put them in my large tank in about a month. When i downsized to a smaller nursery i held them in there until two or three months. Also look at the aggression of the fish in your adult tank. There has been a time or two where i didn't put the fry in until they were nearly full grown because of an overly aggressive molly or other fish. You'll get the hang of it and it will be second nature to say when to put them in.

Yes, they can eat their own fry. This doesn't always happen, however. If you have a well planted tank (even if the plants are artificial) of at least 20 gallons, only guppies in the tank, and the adults are well fed, most of the fry will be fine.
I had a 20 gallon tank with 8 guppies to be used for a behavior (mate selection) lab and two years later I donated two gallon jugs with several dozen 3/4" - 1 1/2" guppies in each to a graduate biology-education student who was setting up a biome tank for her student teaching classroom (I had to thin them out!).
This experience may not be the case for all, and if you want to be sure the babies survive, they should be removed and not reintroduced until they are about 1/2 inch.

Hello
I breed, raise and sell guppies and mollies.
1) yes they will eat their own fry.
2) i keep my fry separate until they are three months old. This keeps them from being attacked/eaten but the adults. It also gives me a chance to identify the sex of the fry and separate them by sex so I don't have any interbreeding.

Yes, they will eat their own babies. For some reason they don't even recognize their own off-spring. Introduce the fry to the rest of the colony when they are big enough NOT to be eaten. Give them a place to hid just in case.

a million. At PetSmart and Petco they promote effective mesh dividers. There are some sizes for 10 gallon, 15 gallon, 20 gallon, really suits maximum tanks. you are able to basically placed the female on the aspect that no filter out is on. Becuase at the same time as she does have children you do not want them to get sucked up. basically split up the quantity you would feed her in a million day in diverse situations of the day, so she would not get hungry and eat her children. She'll be effective in case you seperate them with the divider, its what I did with my mollies. yet once you spot the children in there, flow them to a breeder, no longer yet another TANK. in case you flow them right now, any little aspect can stress them out and kill them. 2. Wait about a month, or till they are extraordinarily higher than your adults mouths. no one ought to fairly wager, yet guppies can not in good structure some thing thats 3 quarters their length into their mouths. you are able to basically wait 4-6 months at the same time as they are adults themselves, yet that receives stressful. :)
