Fish - February 2007

We bought a black morr and paired it with a goldfish with in 48 hours there was a big bubble to come out of the black morr and then the water got cloudy. After cleaning the tank and changing the water I noticed that there was this long red string of something coming out it's back end. Within 8 hours it died. I went back to the store explained what happened and they said that the fish was probably just sick so I bought a second black morr. Now it is has the same red string coming out its back end. Everything is fine with the tank so is it just the fish or is something wrong? This fish I've had for four days now and it started the string thing the day I brought it home. Thanks for any help that anyone can give.

I just recently started a new saltwater tank and shut everything off and took all kinds of water out so I could put my crushed coral in. I washed it exactly how the directions said and there is so much dust! I put water in and it is so cloudy! After about 12 hours it settles, but all I had to do was drag my hand across a little of it and it was super cloudy again. What should I do? Should I keep mixing the dust around until its all sucked into the filter? Please help...

I have a channel cat, pictus cat, 4 line pictus cat, raphael striped cat, sun cat, ( all around 3,4,5,6 inches in a 55 ) as well as 3 cichlids ( don't know what kind ) that are roughly three inches. ) Whenever i feed the catfish, my channel eats most of it, but they all eat at least a little bit. Besides feeding them more, is there something i could do to my fish that would quicken up their growth pace?

I have 1 flathead catfish in a 55 gal tank. Nothing else living in there but a few snails. I feed him earthworms/nightcrawlers mostly, and feeder fish rarely. I just noticed these "things" swimming in the water. They looks like "sperm", but w/o the body...just the tail. They are white, small and skinny, none more than a 1/4".
Is this some kind of parasite??
Thanks in advance.....

So i have a few questions. It has been awile since i had a fish tank :) I have a 75 gallon tank with small fish, lots of plants and a few hiding places like inside a big boats etc. i was wondering.

I would love to have a second ghost knife in the tank. I know there are mixed reviews about this because they get a little aggressive together if they are to close. I also have read people have like a 13" and 9" and them being fine. What are your thoughts?

Also i would like to have an elephant nose as well. Will i have enough room for it to roam free and they all not fight :)

Also i notice my bgn is a small one but it seems to hide most of the time. I have heard people hand feeding it and such like that and playing with it. Is there something i should start to do special to make it this happy, and to bring it out more instead of being in the cave constantly?

I've heard 2 different ways of doing it. What do you suggest? I'm moving 5 blocks away this weekend (2/24 & 25) from where I am now. I have Bala sharks, Silver tip sharks and Clown Loaches in it with ornamentals. This is the first time I've moved since I've had the tank so I've never done this before and I am NOT getting rid of my fish so don't make that suggestion.

I have some plastic plants in my aquarium right now and I have been reading up the benefits of real plants. I was wondering, although I plan on buying some from my local pet store, what are some plants, if any, that I could find outside that would be good in my aquarium? If I happen to find any good plants (taken from the suggestions I recieve from other Yahoo Answers users), what should I do to make sure they are completely sanitary and wont jeopardize my fish's health in any way? I live in Southern Florida, if that helps any. I would like to know, partly out of curiousity, and partly for the fact that I don't want to spend money on something I can find right in my backyard.

Thank you in advance.

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!
I have a round fish tank, about a foot and a half accross and the same deep, it had 2 goldfish and some minnows. I would clean the tank, and within 2 days it went cloudy. I have tried moving the fish into different containers as I thought it may be too many fish, I have tried leaving out the water purifying chemicals, I have changed the gravel 3 times and even tried it with no gravel. A few weeks ago I bought a fire bellied newt. I bought him a sperate 2 litre tank and had water in it for 2 weeks before I introduced the newt. It stayed clear the whole 2 weeks, as soon as i introduced the minnows and the newt, it went cloudy. I am currently cleaning both my tanks every other day to keep them clear and it's really frustrating. WHY are my tanks going cloudy, and HOW can I keep them clear!!!

...its the second time its happened in 6 months. I put my hand in the tank and get a shock. the first time I threw away the lamp and bought another. I use lamps with two power outlets on top, designed for aquariums. I think the lamp casing filled up with condensation which then contacted the tank water, so I mounted the new lamp on inch thick rubber. didn't work because today I got a bad shock again. My fish are all fine though.

Does anyone have any tips or experience with this situation that they would like to share??

My fish (a betta) does not have ich. I have seen ich before. This is a SINGLE GRAY dot (size of the tip of a lead pencil) clinging to the edge of one of his fins. He eats, swims and acts normally. I noticed this dot about a week ago. It hasn't fallen off, so I'm getting worried. Since he's acting totally normal, I hate to treat the water with harsh chemicals. I do weekly water changes and he is in a tank all alone. What is this thing?
