my oscars have started flashing thier colors more than normal and digging holes in the gravel they have become more territorial than normal can 2 different types of oscars breed 1 is a leapord and the other is a fire belly i think it can be almost solid orange somtimes

Yes, all Oscars can interbreed - they are different color morphs of the same species. The problem with letting them breed is that the resulting offspring of the mixed morphs is almost always plain and ugly - which means you'll be stuck with them.

It certainly sounds like they're getting ready though. Some aggression, mainly in the form of lip-locking, is a normal part of breeding, but if you find one of them getting overly harassed and showing signs of extreme stress from it (clamped fins and/or floating near the top of the water breathing heavily (sometimes on its side), then seperation should be considered.
