Fish - February 2007

I have a 49 gl. bow front tank with about an inch of gravel....4 potted plants and a large collesium decoration in the middle...there is a bubble wand in the back of the tank and ive got a whisper power filter (one size bigger than i needed).

Ive just started the tank 2 weeks ago...i have 2 silver dollars and 2 clown loaches right now. I plan to make this an angel fish tank.

How often do you think i need to do water changes on a tank like this? I plan to add more plants (amazon swords & etc).

I have obtained much plants...for the babies to hide themselves..Not sure anything I could improve the safety of babies? .I have return my 2 angels fish to the shop. I bet they will eat them up....I hope the zebra and fighting fish will not eat them.

My Pearl Gourami has got Cloudy Eye in one eye, well this what the aquarium place told me. They gave me some natural antibiotics to treat her with, it smells much like tea tree oil! i cant remember the name. I have put her in a nursing net so the other fish dont attack her. I have been treating it for about a week but now the eye has gone complety cloudy where as before it was just a bit of white in the bottom of the eye, and it has also developed a hole. Is this normal? If she loses the eye can she still survive?

I've had this betta fish for about a week. When I first got him, his fins were dull, and as he's grown, and been eating the food, the colors in the fins have started to brighten up. I woke up this morning, and went to feed him, and I noticed dark (almost black) spots on his top fin. He seems fine and healthy. I don't know if he's sick, or if this is natural. Is it possible to just have dark spots on the fins?

My female guppy had to fry yesterday, only seen one miscarried fry. I thought they were supposed to have more than that. I let her out of the breeding tank after a couple hours of rest. This morning she was hiding down at the bottom of the tank under some leaves from one of the plants and she was acting like she was yesterday before she gave birth, so I put her back into the breeding tank. She has been in there for about 30 minutes now and there has been nothing. She still looks very pregnant, thought maybe she just wasn't done. Any suggestions?

Hi, I have 2 10 gallon tanks and 1 25 gallon tank. 1 of the 10 gallon tanks I have already put fish in and the cycling process has started. My question is, when I do water changes on the tank that has fish in it, can I add that water to the other 2 tanks that haven't any fish in them? My idea is to get those 2 tanks to start the cycle process without fish. That way I won't hurt any more fish by putting through the process of cycling. Thanks for your answers. I have a 30 gallon tank with a non integrated filter complatible for 40-60 gallons from walmart. Is this filter going to be fine for now? I plan to get a better one with a protein skimmer.

Yeah, this is probably a dumb question, but I'm going to ask it just to make sure. My pregnant platy fish doesn't seem to have a problem letting loose her "pooh" (lol sorry) but everytime we look into her tank, she is going to the bathroom. Could this mean that were feeding it too much, or should I give her different food?

Okay guys... Day 3 of dust storm in my tank from that crushed coral. And there is no sign of it getting any better. I plan to siphon it tonight, Eventhough too many siphons will cost me a little more than I want to spend in salt. Any other suggestions please?

I’ve just bought the bulldog discus home a few days ago.
I don't know what's wrong with my bulldog discus; he seems to be bumping into things when he’s swimming. It looks as though he can’t see what’s in front of him.

Do you know what’s wrong with my discus? What can I do help him?

Additional infor:
Ph- 7.2
Ammonia & nitrite- 0ppm
Temperature- 85F
Light- On at night only
Plants- Amazon sword, banana lily and Hygrophila
Water changes- 50% on a Saturday and 10% every second day.
Tank mates- 3 discus, 4 guppies, one baby blue gouramis. (All are peaceful no bully in the tank)
Food- brine shrimp and discus food

I have taken the water to be fully tested and everything is normal and with in range, the temperature is 24 degrees celius.
I had 6 mollies, 3 guppies, 5 tetra, 2 zebra, 1 goldfish (seems to prefer the warmer watter) and 3 minows plus a shrimp. in a 180 litre tank.
All the fish seem fine in the evening eating all there food but each morning there is a new dead fish to be found i am now down to 5 fish and dont want it to become zero! any help would be great!

okay, so i went to walmart the other day, and in the female guppy tank were these 3 cute little swimmers that were about 2 milimeters long... i had to have them, they were soooo cute!

so i bought the guppies and now they're home and they're safe and alive and so on and so forth... however here comes the issue... i don't know if they're female guppies... just because they were in the female guppy tank doesn't necessarilly mean they're females... especially since they were clearly newborn fish... little tiny things... it's possible that 1, 2, or even all 3 could be males, right? how do i know? how do i find out? will they breed? how big will they get before they breed? there's one that is smaller than the other two but it has a bigger tail... that means it's a male, right?

I'm mostly concerned about breeding... when will they breed if they do, and then what do i do with the new fry? how will i know if my guppies are pregnant?
