One big difference in gold fish and bettas is the amount of room they need. A betta can do well in a fairly small container, but a goldfish needs room. A fancy goldfish will get a good 5-7" long and will need a 20 gallon tank by the time it is grown. A comet goldfish will need far, far more room than that as they can get 18" long or more. So you need to plan on having a 20 gallon tank with a filter and hood for your new fish before long at all. Feed it goldfish pellets or flakes from any decent pet shop. It will not need a heater as goldfish are cold water fish. Other than that the same stuff applies to the gold fish as to the betta, keep the tank clean and don't over feed it.
Hope this helps

I wouldnt advice keeping a goldfish in a bowl, they produce alot of watse and you would need to part water change DAILEY! Also I think people forget how big goldfish grow if cared for properly. I have a 2 year old goldfish that was 1/2 inch, its now over 10" Way to big for a bowl hey lol. They need good filteration aswell as close water monitoring (tests) If the water is kept right your fish will thrive. They also like foods like cucumber, bloodworms and daphinia whcih is easly bought at pet stores.

There is a lot of information that you need to know to keep a goldfish healthy and happy. Rather than explain all of it in detail, I will give you several links that will explain all of these things. You need to know things like how much water per one goldfish, water cycling, temperature requirements, filtration, water changes and tank cleaning, proper feeding and what to feed, how to identify your goldfish and diseases and how to identify and treat them. Just remember, the more knowledge you have, the healthier your new little friend will be which will make both it and you happy! Good luck and have so much fun! I love goldies!

Well it all depends on how big a fish tank/bowl you plan on using. I am assuming you will probably be using a bowl as it sounds like your boyfriend got you only one fish. If its a bowl you should let the bag with your fish in it and the fish bowl of water sit for at least 2-4 hours. That way they can both acclimate to room temperature. Once this happens you can then open the bag and pour your fish into its home. If you have a larger tank, still apply the 2-4 hour rule and then let your fish float in the tank while still in the bag for about half an hour to an hour before removing and placing in tank. In terms of feeding, I feed my goldfish about once every three days. This will minimize over pollution of the tank/bowl and reduce the risk of your fish getting too fat. In terms of changing the water I would try to chage at least 30-40% of the water once every three weeks. Apply all the rules above and you should be fine. Overall, Goldfish are very hardy fish and it takes a lot to kill them. Hope this helps.

see the link below. they're experienced goldfish breeders with lots of good advice.

goldfish need different care to bettas. larger tanks too. good filtration. lots of oxygen in their water. careful feeding as they're prone to constipation and swimbladder problems.

as with bettas, they will need cleaning out every week.

if he's in a bowl, get a big tank. bowls are for flowers, not for fish. a goldfish will NOT thrive in a bowl. they need the filtration, space and stabilitity of a proper fish tank. 20 US gallons is best for a single goldfish. it may look silly if the fish is only 2" long, but he'll grow fast and be 8" long in no time!

girl/boy all those people are going to get your fish killed first of all a goldfish can live in a bowl. However you will have to change the water every week to clear out the ammonia levels because goldfih poop are toxic to the and could kill them .you will need to feed them only golfih food. And also a filter should be the last thing on your mind.trust me got to drs. foster and smith. They have articles on fish care that will seriously help you out.

You need a filtered aquarium, not a goldfish bowl. Get your butt to Petland or Petco and ask for help and advice, best bet.

Just keep it at room temperature and it should be fine, feed it koi or goldfish pellets, crush them up if they are too big for him. Just change the water on a regular basis, maybe once every couple of weeks or if it gets cloudy then change it.

then feed it..
after an hour take it out of the bag
clean it every month
get a net for the fish when you clean.
when cleaning the bowl put it in a bowl of water
