Fish - February 2007

I had this single Neon in a 1 gallon aquarium for nearly 6 months. It was active and healthy. However, when I placed it into a new aquarium with another Neon and a snail both Neons died within five days.

The new aquarium is a 2.5 gallon and it has a filter. It sat with filter running for 3 and a half day before adding fish. And my room stays between 72 plus degrees.

Did I over stress my old Neon by having too much change at one? It was perfectly heathy till I put it through all that chaos.

I know...its still alive..completely healthy, besides the fact that it is the only one of my 6 fish that floats upside down..almost like a bobber. Ive heard that they can get this from eating pellet food..is there anything that can be done?

I only have a 10 gallon right now and one butterfly gold fish and two snail, one tiger and the other one this random red one with a white-ish shell. Anyway the tank gets so dirty and merky after only one week. what could be making so dirty? and also i ussually just clean it but now i have 6 batches of snail eggs and i'm affraid if i don't clean it my fish will die. So, it's either kill the snail eggs and have a clean tank for my fishy or risk my fish dieing and keeping the snail eggs. is there a way to clean the tank and keep the sail eggs?

She has gotten a big belly over just the last few days. I just got her last thursday. Her belly looks somewhat squarish from the side, but mostly round and it is really big. Much larger compared to my other Dalmation Mollie female.

I'm getting ready to purchase a 150 gallon freshwater tank and just wanted to get some different idea of some fun fish I can put in there. I want community fish that will work with tetras and angel fish. So what would you put in there?

I am currently looking at Red Bellied Piranhas. And I wanted to know if they are legal in all 50 states and if not which ones. In my research I couldn't find a really max size. I also couldn't find things on sexing them.

I set my 50/55 gallon tank (I'm not sure which it is) just Saturday. I bought a ph test kit, and found the ph was off the charts blue, which means it's worse than 7.6! I've put enough ph down in it according to the bottle, and it's still sitting at 7.6. How do I fix this? Do I need to keep dripping ph down into the tank until it's fixed? Is there a more natural way to fix it, without having to drain and refill the tank? It isn't the tap water that's screwy. That is almost perfectly 7.0. I put a dechlorinator, aquasafe, and accu-clear in the water while filling. Could that be part of the problem? I'm kinda eager to get this underway asap, since my cory cat is picking on my betta in his 2 gallon. The sooner they can have the space, the better...
Thanks in advanced for your help.
:o)

i have a chinese algea eater he is about 3 inches long i got him for the African Clawed frog tank but when i took the filter out to make hte frog happier he seemed to be sufficating so i moved him first try was to the betta tank but the betta HATED him he kept flaring up at him so that was a no go next i tryed the goldfish tank but the gold fish are about 3 inches a peices and they kept pecking at the algea eater was worried they were trying to eat him so i tryed my last tank with my rasboras they are only about an inch now and i am worried that my algea eater will eat them they will get to about 2 inches at the most and the algea eater will get rather big 5 inches maybe bigger so my question is will my algea eater be better with the gold fish or the rasboras i understand that neither tank needs an algea eater since the goldfish keep the tank clean and the rasboras have another algea eater that will only get to 2 inches that i bought just for that tank

I would like to know what filter is the best, gravel, lighting, plants and everything else for my freshwater tank. I am a bio major and love everything underwater. I would like to know as much as I can for setting up my freshwater tank, esp. from people with experience.

Hey!
I've had a male betta for 6-7 months in a 5 gallon tank. I was thinking of introducing new fish in his tank. Would Zebra Danios do? They are small and do not have long fins. Would my betta get along with them? Like about 4-5 of zebra danios?

I currently have a 15-gallon tank with 3 glo-light tetras, 2 black-skirt tetras, and 2 glow red danios. I have had the tank for about 2 months. I have heard some talk about getting live plants for my tank. Should I get some live plants? Are they easy to maintnence? Will my current fish like them? Are there pros and cons to live plants?

Thanks
