my oscar is about 4 inches long and its hiding behind some decor at the back. Normal?

Yep, totally normal for the first few days to a week. Oscars do that all the time.

I'm not finding any information on a leopard oscar or cichlid. There are leopard discus. Someone may have told you an incorrect name for this fish. There is a tiger oscar. Could it be this? But, assuming that you know it is an oscar of some sort, oscars are territorial and will search out a corner of the tank and claim it as their own. So, in addition to just getting used to the tank and being a bit scared or shy, it's also staking out its territory and plan on probably seeing it hanging out there a lot. Have fun!
