He is in shock from the mistreatment, but if he is swimming even a little he will probably recover fully. Try to keep the room darkened and nice and quite with as little moving around in there as possible for the next few hours, that will help him settle back down.

Well, he's just gone through a massive shock. You'd be pretty disoriented and feeling pretty badly if this happened to you. All you can do is wait and see whether thare are any long term effects. You could add a little aquarium salt to reduce stress and ward off any possible disease that may set in as a result of the damage done to the skin, but otherwise, you will just need to wait and see. Do not use table salt. You can get aquarium salt at the pet store. Add it according to the directions. And keep the room/area quiet and the light dimmed to soothe the fish and help it feel calm and reduce its stress and don't keep bothering it and poking at it. And, just as a comment to your little sister, fish are living creatures. They are not play toys. They deserve the same respect that you would or should give any other living creature. Doing this has nothing to do with teasing your big sister. It has to do with being cruel to animals. Thanks sweetie!

The poor fish is in shock from being abused like that. Whether he recovers depends on if there are any internal injuries and hopefully there aren't. In the future, keep your sister OUT of the room where the fish is, or put a lid on the tank or something.

taking him out of the tank shocked him bc (belive it or not) bettas can recognize their owners. when she dropped him and his body hit the rim of the tank it might have fractured his tail or dazed him significantly. unfortunatly there is no vets for bettas. just monitor him and give him his food as normal. hopefully he will recover and it wont be a serious injury.

when he recovers if you see some slime or bacteria on his body he will need medicine to get rid of it. so look out for the signs.

i had a betta i named sushi for 7 years (yep thats right) he lived to te ripe old age of 7 he would swim up to the tank when i came near and if i put my finger he would swim around it. if someone else did it he would go to the bottom of the tank. just a story i wanted to share. i love bettas

It sounds like he may be in shock. Put in a little bit of water conditioner and give him some time. He may or may not make it. Time will tell.
