My friend experience a tragedy last night with his dog. Here's the article:

An off-duty Omaha Police officer is under fire, accused of shooting a family's dog to death. The Nebraska Humane Society says Omaha Police Officer Jarvis Duncan shot a Husky named Layla three times in his front yard, after he says he was charged by the dog. The owners say the dog would never threaten anyone. "I stepped out of the garage and looked up the street and I could see my dog laying in the middle of the yard," says the dogs owner Eddie burns
"You're safe in your house. You wife is safe in her car. Where is the immediate threat," says Stephanie Brunt-Howard, Burns mother. Burns says he and his mother will continue to fight for what they believe is right, considering all legal options.

Here's the link to that article (and there is a video if you are interested): http://www.kmtv.com/Global/story.asp?

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS? I'M CURIOUS TO HEAR OTHER OPINIONS.
THANKS!

Ok so I have a basset hound who is about 4 years old now, I used to have a golden lab who was really smart and knew how to come/stay an avoid getting killed an could find his way back home.

My lab never did anythin stupid like eat grass or like put his nose in other dogs poop, go crazy when other dogs are around or run away into traffic.

My basset almost died several times hes run through an electric fence/w a collar on and gotten lost several times an was just sniffing around

He eats plants that aren't edible and tugs an pulls in the opposite direction we need to go does not know how to come or stay, doesn't eat when food is put out till hours later, he just doesn't remind me of my lab at all who was much more I dunno how to say this but a smart dog.

What can I do to make him smarter an is it true that bassets are really the dumbest dogs plz help

He suffered an injury, where his skin was torn by a sharp stick.
He has an open wound 3 inches deep, and a fever of 101.
He is also shaking, as if he has chills.

We have tried shampoos, oatmeal sprays and anything you can think of. We live in St Petersburg so I know it is moist here. Any ideas? I feel so bad for him.

My 7 week old puppy likes to pull items from my hand (like socks, clothes etc). He growls and barks a little bit as he pulls trying to take it away but he waggs his tail...Would this play encourage him to be aggressive? He has very sweet and friendly personality. What do you all think?

She is a black dog and is a total sweetie. She has been abandoned I''m almost compelely sure, because she has no collar but you can see the mark where the collar once was. She is trained - knows how to sit and beg for treats. But I'm afraid she might have been abandoned because she is sick. I don't notice anything significantly wrong with her but what are some symptoms that I should look for to make sure she's absoloutly healthy.

They were bred for dog fighting since 200 years ago. With 2000 breeds of dogs to choose from why would you choose a pitbull which are in the news constantly about attacking PETS and KIDS or GRANNIES or even their OWNERS! See the latest stories here. http://news.google.com/news?client=opera&rls=en&q=pitbull+attack&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wn

Insurance companies wont insure your house for financing and most apts wont take them so they are dumped in the shellters where a million are put to sleep every year. They attack suddenly without warning and wont stopp until the victim is lifeless. England and Australia have banned them as well as scores of cities. So why would one buy such a dog?

Please help me decide the best dog to get..
I have a 5 month old jack russell/beagle female spayed
and cats
my choices are:
1. "Cockapoo" puppy from a breeder
2. Siberian husky from a rescue (less than a year old) male
3. lab/border collie mix from rescue
4. spaniel/lab mix from rescue

I love the lab/collie. But I never owned a border collie before, i know they need a job to do but I dont know what job to give them. I have lots of times for long walks and play and parks on weekends.

What are your favorite dogs out of those choices?? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELP!!

My family is adopting a puppy this November. (Thnksgvng wknd, so that we can devote most of our time to help the puppy adjust)
In our family we have two parents, one who is at home for most of the day. There is a teenage daughter, who can help with the new addition, and a 10 year old boy who is autistic.
Since he is autistic, we need a dog that is tolerant and very good with kids. He is afraid of dogs who would chase him and bark at him. If they are gentle and docile, he will grow to love them and play with them gently.
We prefer it be easy to train, with minimal grooming requirements because we have carpeting. We do not mind a little shedding, but we dont want it to be taken to get prof. groomed.
Our house has a big, fenced, yard, and we can devote 1 hour plus a day to just playing and excersising with the dog. We of course consider time for taking it out to do its "buisness" and time to feed it, take it to the vet, etc.
What breed would be best for us?

so last thursday my dog went to get neutered, and of course they gave us instructions on how to take care of the dog after the surgery and gave us some medication. well he was fine the first 2 days after surgery then he started vomiting a lot.
we went to the vet and they said give him two days to see hows he doing.
well two days and he was still the same.
i called back and they told us to take him in and do all these tests to check up but i don't have the money and they wanted a fortune.
so i went to another vet for a second opinion and they couldnt do anything there.
for the past few days we've been doing everything we found on here to help him with the vomiting/lethargy
we tried a bunch of things and none some to work
and yes ive tried pedialyte

there seems to be no hope for my down
he cant hold water or food down.
so i've been considering to put him down
i love my dog very much but the vets cant even help him how am i supposed to.
ive done all i could
what do you think i should do?

My one year old female bulldog at a leash free dog park proceeded to charge me and hump me and bite at my coat after she played with a bunch of dogs. She would not stop, i grabbed her collar and told her no about 5 times, she would not stop, owners and dogs fled. I was most embarrassed as i felt out of control with her. So i put her leash on and we left the park and she was not allowed to stay and play. she has never done this before. This park we went to was a different location than we normally go to. I would appreciate any feed back. Lynn

so why do all of you yell at people when you dont even have the right answer? she didn't ask when she asked what can i expect but all you saw was 7 week old puppy and SCREAM at her the fact is an this is said by a VET not a bunch of know it all people on yahoo

A puppy can leave the mother when it is weaned and eating solid food well. However, it appears that between 7-9 weeks is a good time to have puppies go to their new homes. This allows them time to learn dog social skills from their mother and litter mates, be comfortable eating solid food and better able to learn new tasks such as house training and socialization with people. Once the puppy arrives in their new home, they should be taken to the veterinarian to begin their first set of vaccinations and have a fecal sample checked for parasites.
