Anyone not agree with putting a dog in a cage for hours on end? This is a sort of newer thing, and I think it sucks. Yes, a dog can learn to adapt (they are stoic, after all) and they'll sleep, whatever, but does anyone agree with me that this is no kind of life for an animal whose instinct is to roam up to 12 hours a day, covering miles of territory? When did it change from dogs having doggie doors and the run of the house to people caring more about inanimate objects and keeping dogs confined in a space no bigger than their body? Oh, and I've seen a lot of questions about keeping dogs outdoors, so I want to state a fact: 90% of dog attacks were due to dogs who spend their life alone and chained in a yard, and then they get loose and are basically wild and mentally disturbed. Dogs are social, they belong with a pack!

She's been doing this weird thing for about 2 weeks where she starts doing some kind of choking thing, looks like she's going to throw up and then just stops. Sometimes she coughs up some stuff that looks like spit and the other day she coughed up a huge nasty ball of something. What's wrong with her?

Anyone who thinks pit bulls attack unprovoked, or is afraid of them, or hates them, I am offering you my email and my time. I also know that NO DOG EVER ATTACKS UNPROVOKED, we just fail to read the signs that the dog is becoming uncomfortable. As someone who devotes much of my life to pits, I am more than willing to help you correct your miseducated beliefs! Anyone so set in their belief that pits are bad, well, then what can you lose by taking this challange?

My friend's dog has a flea problem and Frontline doesn't seem to be working. She would rather not use any other products that may be harmful.

They are currently eating Science Diet puppy food but I know it's not the best choice. I'm looking for a healthy, all-natural dog food that will help them grow strong and maintain their physiques. They are quite finicky and need something that tastes great as well. Any suggestions?

Last night, within the period of 20 minutes, four or five stories were put up that were totally fake. Yet they all had the same goal: making people believe that pit bulls are crazy attacking beasts. I am curious to know why they would do this. If you think pit bulls are dangerous, why would you need to MAKE UP proof? You are just trying to be heard, to hurt people, and to drive a nail into the coffin of the FIRST AMERICAN BREED! It is sooo sad. The truth is, banning pit bulls won't stop attacks, because the pit bulls who attack humans were (and you can't debate this, as I am a dog professional with years of experience) provoked by abuse or trained to do so, and whoever would train a dog to hurt people IS A CRIMINAL, who would not register their dog and would not care one bit if they broke the law by having a large breed dog. There is a reason why we have allowed dogs into our homes for 10,000 years, because they are totally stable creatures who never behave unpredictably-we just fail

I'm getting a pit bull mix the end of October and my boyfriend and I cannot think of a name for likes of day. We thought of Tyson but I like that better for a child. I don't want anything like buddy or girly. It's going to be a boy and we already have a pit bull named Baby. Any suggestions would be great! Thank you.

my fathers dachsund passed away about 6 months ago and i know he feels very lonely without it but doesnt have the money to replace it with another purebreed. i think he paid about $500 for him 16 years ago. he is on a very tight income and cant afford to buy a purebred. i am wanting to get him another dog myself but i cant afford alot of money, a few hundred would be fine. but he likes very small dogs. 12 pounds or less so he can lift them to take for car rides or so he can pick them up to put in bed with him. i went to the animal shelter but all the small dogs were puppies that will get much larger than he will be able to handle. are there any affordable mixed breeds that wont get over 12 pounds. he likes my little spitz and she is 30 pounds but she can jump up so he doesnt need to lift her. it still doesnt fit his needs as she sheds alot being a long haired dog and he cant vacuum daily. any very small dog would be great.

My dog is allergic to fleas and is supposed to have an allergy shot once a month, but it costs me nearly $100 each month. They have a $45 fee just for putting her on the table and the shot itself costs $50. I can't afford to pay $100 a month. She gets a real bad rash on her stomach and the top of her butt when she doesn't get her shot. Is there anything I can do for her?

4 yrs ago she was diagnosed with a Lupus type illness.
3 weeks ago she was very sick, eating grass constantly, she appeared to recover.
3 days ago she began being sick again, (food & water), she lay next to me shakingall night.
My vet said her ongoing digestive problems lead her diagnosis to be an inability to cope with certain proteins in food.
Millie's now on ZD Hills diet.
It is taking her quite a bit longer to reover this time & I am hoping someone out there may have similar experiences & would contact me with some advice which will enable my dog to continue enjoying her life!!!
I should mention I got Millie when she was 3 weeks old & bottlefed her because she was going to be drowned by the person who had her mum!!!
She was spayed age 6 months. No other major health problems except her ongoing digestive troubles, also every time she drinks she has a mini coughing fit, this she has done since a puppy, the vet said she has a sensitive throat!!!Thankyou.

I have a 5 year old Schipperke and the other day I noticed that 2 of her upper teeth were gone and there's a 3rd tooth hanging there. On the bottom she's missing a tooth and 3 of them are disended. She still eats like a pig, so it doesn't seem to bother her. But I'm worried that she'll be toothless. Could it be an iron/vitamin deficancy? I don't brush her teeth because she won't let me. She never did. She also has really bad breath. Any info would help.

Why are some of the dog owners on here so hostile? Ive seen a bunch of questions about health problems and I always see at least one answer that says something along the lines of "you shouldn't have a dog" "take them to vet you stupid" in a hostile manner. What does that bring? These people (yes some are pretty stupid! and yes some propably shouldnt have pets) at least cared enough to ask. The fact that CutiePatootie124579 said they shouldnt have a pet isnt going to make them bring it straight to the SPCA. In fact, its pointless to be that hostile. Don't you think being nice about it and encouraging the person by giving them options about where they can find health care for their pet, or telling them nicely that this animal does need to go to a vet and encourage them rather than insulting them would be more beneficial to the animal? I guess the question is (and its really aimed at the hostile people): Why are you being so hostile? It doesnt do anything but get you a thumbs-down!
