Hi Yall.
I was just wondering, can you still potty train a chihuahua without it peeing in the house first? Because I understand accidents, I just want to train her before the accident...or is that possible? Im in desperate need of help for my chihuahua and I. Thanks to everyone and PLEASE no RUDE answers or you will be reported. I need kind answers not rude people.

Hi, I have had my chihuahua a year and a half or so now. He was hard to potty train as a pup.
You cannot expect Any accidents NOT to happen. When they are young, even with the use of pads, newspaper or whatever (I have tried them all!) they will still go elsewhere.
I used newspaper, it proved the best! But remember to put lots down!
Erm another thing. My chihuahua goes to the door now every time he wants to go out, which is handy! Or I will notice him sniffing around sometimes (look out for that!) So I let him out.
BUT I will still find patches where he is weeing around the house... On the side of the bin, or side of a door. This might be down to the fact he's a male & he is marking his territory - but every time he does it, all's I have to do is put his nose near it & he knows straight away it's wrong...

Good luck... and like I said do not expect it to be easy... there will be a lot of mess in the first few months unfortunately!!! Be patient, don't shout, just point to the mess... he/she will know what it's done wrong...

I have 5 dogs (2 of them are Chihuahuas)...and I have never used potty pads. In the early stages of potty training, I was just very consistent with taking everyone out A LOT, especially after meals. I also praised them for doing their business outside. Of course there were accidents, which I'm sure you'll have too. I think if you are consistent with your potty breaks, everything will work out just fine. Not all small dogs are difficult to potty train...it depends on the dog.

I have 2 chihuahuas and I would take them out frequently when they were puppies to let them use the bathroom. The most important thing to do is to praise, praise, praise when they do go to the bathroom outside....make a huge deal of it and give them a reward. They will help them relate going to the bathroom outside as a positive thing and they are more likely to do it in the future. You may want to place pee pads in the house in case of accidents. Just remember to be patient with them and know that potty training may take a while. Hope this helps.

I have a Chihuahua as well, and you HAVE to potty train them early other wise they will pee everywhere. Buy some small pee pads and always keep them on the same spot in the house.. If you notice the dog only pees in one spot , keep the pad in that spot all the time. This gives the dog a sense of direction..it teaches them it is only OK to pee in that one place. After you notice them not using the pad anymore take it away...this will show them you have to only go outside now. it takes patience but it works very well...Good luck!!

well it depends are you using potty pads ? If so then start moving the potty pads closer to the door that the chi will be going in and out of . and the chi should get the picture . congrats on owning one of the smartest dogs on the planet . I have two and they are very ,very smart . good luck .

i would do your best to take outside alot to train it. I paper trained a dog big mistake. i lucked out with my rescue chi it was already trained. He did pee in house a few days just to mark his territory but he sneezes when he needs to go out. or goes to door and barks. U just need to be consistent with taking them out like 2 hrs or less. Good luck

Chihuahuas are not as hard to train as one would think. You can purchase "how to" books at many stores. or if u want here are a couple of good sites:
