Some of the questions posted are either breathtakingly stupid or seem like the person posting about a sick/injured animal doesn't give a rip. Really, would you be on line asking for help if your dog had been bleeding and barely breathing for 3 days? I hope not, and this has nothing to do with IQ, there's something inherently wrong with a person who is that cavalier about their animal. I love my dogs and cat and these type of questions make me very angry even though I don't post a rude response. I read one the other day from a woman who leaves her 5 month old pup in the laundry room 19 hours a day and wanted to know what to do about it crying all the time - how could you possibly respond to that question in a civil fashion? While I hate to see really obnoxious answers, I may not agree with the form, but I do agree with the substance.

I think people get upset over people that do "stupid" things to their dogs because they shouldn't have the dog in the first place. These people would probably treat (or do) treat their children the same as the dog. It is difficult to read a question when you know the dog is not taken care of and/or abused and there is nothing you can do about it.
This situation is exactly like child abuse. And IF the courts would do more than slap their hands this behavior might stop.
I admit it. I have become hostile a couple times. I didn't feel bad about it and never gave that thumbs down a single thought. I was too busy thinking of the dog that needed to be taken away from that "person".
EDIT NOTE: "LESLIE L" how would that person know her cat had a crushed pelvis if she had not taken him/her to the vet? Not that it matters. The girl probably wouldn't pay the vet to care for the injured cat anyway. That afternoon she probably went to the shelter and brought home another cat.

Let me cite an example of something and you might see another person's point of view.
On the cat forum the other day, someone posted a question regarding the fact that their cat had a shattered pelvis and hadn't used the litter box for 4 days. The person asked if that was normal.
I can only imagine your horror at reading this secondhand. Obviously, this animal needed to go to the vet immediately, but rather than being concerned about the kitty's welfare, the owner would rather get on the computer and take the advice of strangers. It's maddening, infuriating to think that this cat suffered for FOUR DAYS in extreme pain.
Today, a teenage girl posted a question about skinning her cat after it died so she could make a purse out of its pelt.
No, it probably doesn't accomplish anything to get angry, but most animal care is simple common sense.
Edit for Kate - I don't know how the person knew. Got the impression that she'd seen the cat run over and did nothing about it at the time since the cat was able to get up and limp away, but that's exactly what I mean by infuriating. Not enough information is given most of the time on these questions and I've personally become exceedingly angry at rampant stupidity for the animal's sake.

When I read a post awhile back about a dog with an open wound and dying and the owner looking to "justify" not seeing a vet because the dog was 11 years old, and well it would cost her to much money etc... and was it really worth it, yes I let her have it but good. I bet the dog finally died a horrible slow agonizing death to.
Some of the people here are such morons that they shouldn't be allowed to be in charge of caring for anything that's living. (I have a brother that is one such moron and I'm trying to get his two dogs from him, I care for them mostly when I can)
On the other side of the coin that your referring to, well sometimes it gets to frustrating to answer a question that is common sence so people let them have it. Most mean or rude appearing replies I have seen were justified.
They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, well you can't teach an idiot how to care for a pet the way they should either.
Personally I think I'd have better luck teaching the old dog,lol
EDIT:10/13 Re: 2westies post below, I know what you mean about getting upset over the lady asking what to do about her puppy crying for being left in a laundry room for 19 hours a day. I wish I saw that post I'd slam her good!
I care for my idiot brothers two small dogs daily now because I don't trust him anymore.
Yesterday I go down and check on them and he has a playpen set up in our parents basement for the healthy one to stay in when he's gone. I hit the roof, I hauled that into the dining room and advised my parents that no way in hell that poor dog is staying in a dark lonely cellar! and he doesn't even need to be in that playpen at night to sleep in as he's behaved.
"You care to much about these, and your dogs" is what I got for a responce from Mom. Pretty sick when members of your own family are guilty of it, at least one of us kids turned out a decent human being.
I also agree with a lot of the above posts here, it's hard to believe that some people are really that stupid and cruel regarding the posts they have mentioned.

I would probally have to say it is because, people post the same questions out of some form of just being stupid.. If you have to come on YA and ask "my dog had puppies" what do i do, of course im gonna have to agree and ask "your just asking this now" i don't know i get frustrated with the things asked on here, i try not to be harsh, but when it is something like that, or i read one like " my dog has a gash on his leg, what do i do" im sorry i agree some people shouldn't have animals, but as with all of YA i am who i am, and i say what i feel.. this is all (my opinion only). I think we get tired of some of the stuff people ask, and when you answer the same thing 100 times a night, from the same person, it gets frustrating.. I would say don't be rude about it and call people names, unless it is posted with a topic like " where do i go to see a dog fight" then well they deserve the criticism there gonna get. But alot of the things on here, a simple call to the vet, which takes less time then to type would be better, then rely on a bunch of who evers on the Internet.. I give my input to the best of my knowledge but always in the back of my mind i am asking why are they on here instead of doing what is right.....

I would totally allow my dog to donate blood. One of my dogs had to have an emergency transfusion to save her life and if one of the vet techs at the vet hadn't offered up her dog that was already there, mine may have died because we didn't have time to go home and get our other dog. It's a great thing to do, it doesn't hurt the donor and it could very well save another dog's life. As long as care is taken to keep the donor comfortable, then why not? I wouldn't do it excessively, but here and there to help out, absolutely. Edit: To Sunny, you mentioned that it could bother your dog. I watched them take the blood from the donor before putting it in my dog and he was fine. They gave him a mild sedative and he just laid there calmly. They all stroked him and comforted him and afterward he just sat up like nothing had happened. He wasn't traumatized at all. If it were distressing for the individual dog, then that dog obviously isn't a candidate, but I think most dogs would do just fine.

Hopefully, people post questions because they care and need help.I do feel that some questions are posted only to start a riot.It took me a long time to explore the "pet"category because it comes with so much controversy!I try to assume people really do mean well, and if not for them,I hope my experience can help someone reading it! Education is the key!

I think its because they're sick of hearing the same questions, or the same type of people asking stupid questions. I think that they're trying to make it better for the dogs of the world, but come off being rude. I admit, I'm probably guilty of this, but in life as well. It's hard to have a calm response to someone that wants to breed their dog, yet has NO idea about it. And they come on here for everyone to answer their breeding questions. They should read a book about it instead. There was even someone who didn't feed her dog dog food, he ate people food, and she was wondering why he was sick. In these cases, I don't think they should be pet owners. People just get feed up with ignorance.

I agree with you. When I see people being rediculous I get angery, I mean if they don't like the question, don't look at it!.
A couple days ago I saw someone in every question I went to who basicaly just said "you're so stupid you shouldn't have a dog". Later I saw him ask a question that went something like this "I forget, is this section just for 8-year-olds?" lol, I was so close to telling him he was the 8-year-old.

And telling them to go to a vet doesn't motivate them to go there, either, but it is what they need to do. Thumbs down? Big deal. If you look a little closer, you'll see that often direct, to the point answers, what you probably deem "hostile", get WAY more thumbs UP than down. I mean, what would you say to a question like "My little brother has a fork sticking out of his eye. What should I do? It's been in there for two hours, and he seems to be in pain."? There are questions on here on the same level.
