She is a black dog and is a total sweetie. She has been abandoned I''m almost compelely sure, because she has no collar but you can see the mark where the collar once was. She is trained - knows how to sit and beg for treats. But I'm afraid she might have been abandoned because she is sick. I don't notice anything significantly wrong with her but what are some symptoms that I should look for to make sure she's absoloutly healthy.

if you want to keep her, you can contact the humane society/shelter in your area..and let them know she was a rescue..and you can get discount meds and office visits..they also do a free spay at most clinics.. things right off the bat to look for is a runny nose/eyes..if she is underweight..if there's any spots on her body..like she's been diggin at her skin...but if you think she's sick..take her to the vet asap...good luck

Is she eating/pooping ok? Vomiting? Is she lethargic? Those are your best indicators of a viral sickness. How old is she (apporximately)? She might have some more complicated illnesses if she's older, like arthritis or cancer which are extremely hard to diagnose. Also, she might have a heart murmur, which can be kind of expensive to treat (~$50 a month for meds), you'd need to take her to a vet to know for sure.

You should let the local authorities know that you have her, she may have slipped out of her collar and somebody's is looking for her. Why do you think she is sick? She has a healthy appetite. Is she limping? Is she malnourished? Are her eyes bright? Is she all dirty and matted like she's been on her own for awhile? She's probably confused being without her pack. See if anyone's looking for, that would be in her best interest.

All you need to do is give it away to the local animal shelter or ASPCA home, then tell them you found it and details etc. and they will take care of it the rest of the way .... this has happened to me all the time and in almost all of the cases ive had the lost animal found its owner. Also email your friends about the lost dog and they will email it to their friends and surely threes a person knows who's cat that is.also you can post mini signs up on posts or bulletin boards and surley theres someone who knows who it is.......you can also list him/her on craigslist to see if they know too

You should make an effort to find her owners? Any shelter or vet will check her for a microchip. I'd be sick forever if I lost one of my dogs and would hope whoever found either one of them would have the decency to attempt to get them back home as I would with a stray.

If you are thinking of keeping this dog, take her to the vet asap. Not you, not I, nor anyone else on this forum can tell what "symptoms" to look for to make sure she is absolutely healthy. No one can tell that by "looking". If you intend to make her yours, then start off by treating her right, and taking her to be examined by a vet. You will want her tested for heart worm, intestinal parasites, and fleas and ticks. as well as making sure she is brought up to date on all vaccinations.

Maybe she was tied up on a leash while her owners were in a store or something. Sometimes dogs who are tied up pull backwards with their heads tilted down, so the collar will slip off.

runny eyes and runny nose. Any coughing or gagging. Any odd behavior that a dog usually doesn't do.
Also, best thing to do is to take her to a vet. Since she as a stray you don't know if she's up-to-date with rabies

Neither doctors or vets are God, so nobody knows for sure. You could have tests run and spend some $$ but there are no guarantees with health.
