Kim R is right. Pick up a capstar pill and fronline from your vet. The pill will kill every flea on your pet for up to 24 hours. When you give the pill also apply the frontline to keep the fleas from coming back. Remember not to bathe your dog 2-3 days before or after applying the frontline because its works by spreading through the oils in there skin. If you bathe them you strip the oils off and it won't spread. Remember also that you may still see the occasional flea even while using frontline because in order for it to die it has to jump on your dog to come in contact with the frontline. After they come in contact it takes up to 12 hrs for it to die.

Frontline, Advantage or Revolution - or Advocate. Any veterinary spot-on basically. These kill all fleas within 24 hours, so no need for any flea shampoos, which don't work anyway.

Also be wary of bathing the dog before applying Frontline or the others - if you do it as soon as the animal is dry, it won't work because it needs the natural oils of the skin to work and you will have just washed these off. Wait at least 24 hours after bathing - i.e don't bath, just pick some up from a vet now and get started!

You'll probably need a house spray too, as most of the fleas are living in the environment,

Bath your dog with a good quality dog shampoo made specifically for fleas. Then the next day when he is dry, apply Frontline or Advantage which is available at your local vet's office and some pet stores. Also, you need to vaccum your house really well and wash all of your and the dog's bedding. Have a pesticide company come spray your house- it's not expensive and works great for fleas.

Do not use a poor quality flea treatment from the grocery store- the company known as Hartz/Zodiac sells a flea treatment which has been linked to hundreds of animal's deaths due to the harsh chemicals they use- only use Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution.

I recommend a pill called CapStar for flea infestation. This pill will kill any flea or tick on your animal within an hour or so. Then Frontline topical once a month. Your vet can provide both of these and both are relatively inexpensive. You will also need to treat your home if the fleas have moved in with you. Flea treatment for your home comes in a million different brands and types. I personally had success with the Raid flea bombs and spray and vacuuming everyday.
