I love great danes a lot, just the way they are and I dont see the need for cropped ears. i think it's just as silly as docking puppies tails. does anyone agree? its cool if you dont.

I have a dog that engages in destructive chewing. She never does it when I am at home - only when I am gone (even if gone only 10 minutes.) I crate her when I leave, but would like to let her stay out when I am gone - I have another older dog who stays out - and would like to do same with her.

She has a few toys to play with, but when I leave, she eats shoes, tears up the carpet, and gnaws on the trim to the doors. I have a baby on the way, and need to break her of this habit soon!

I have tried hard discipline (spanking) and I have also tried softly telling her "no" and even ignored the problem - but nothing seems to help. When I come home, I can tell when she chewed something because she'll run to her crate.

What can I do?

I am trying to explain to my daughter that Pitbulls are completely evil. They are never to be trusted. My Sister In Law thinks that it is just because they are misunderstood or that the owners are bad...
However, we recently had a pitbull attack that was a Puppy who ate the toes off of a one month old. If it was the owner who taught the puppy (6 weeks old) to do this... he must be an amazing and sick trainer.
I believe these animals are EVIL and belong in the wild.
What are your thoughts?

Sometimes when I give our dog a haircut, I end up making her look goofy which makes me laugh at her. My wife says that's mean, but I don't think the dog knows what laughing means. What do you think? Do dogs feel bad when we laugh at them?

I am adopting this dog on Friday. He is now called Sonny, but only for a week. I would like to rename him. We are from Mississippi if that helps.

I live in AZ and I keep my dog outside while I am at work. This will be our first summer with her so I don't know what I should do. If I leave her inside while at work she will eat things and terrorize the cats. I have been thinking of putting up misters on the patio to keep her cool but I don't know if that is enough. I also don't know how hot is too hot. I don't think 100 is too hot, but what about 105, 110? I work from 6-3pm and when I get home she seems okay, she does lay on the tile but not a lot of panting. Any advice or idea would be wonderful. Thank you

The heartworm preventive medication. I can buy it from Canada without a prescription, but it's not the meat flavored chewable type.

I have a serious delima here. My Aussie Puppy(5months old) tries to kill my chickens everytime I free range them. I have just been keeping them in the pen, but am getting terrible egg quality. I have tried chaining the pup up, but she is going to kill herself trying to get out. (she is used to roaming the yard). She almost killed one of my Bantams yesterday. How do I stop this behavior? Or will she always be a killer? She also tries to attack my big goat and my baby goat. I know she is a herder and its instinct to herd, but is it normal for her to want to kill? She gets a crazy ook in her eye. Should I just get rid of her? Is there a training method that will deter this? My kids are very attached to her, but I am afraid this terrible behavior might be turned to the kids (they can sit on her, pull her hair take her food away, even her favorite bone), and she has never shown aggresion towards them. I have four acres and no fencing. Please help! We love this dog, but dont want a killer.

i own 2 female bulldogs, 1 female staff & 1 male staff.
i recentley got a 12 week old male bulldog and 2 my horror he was killed by the male staff when i wasnt around.
the male staff has never been agressive and never attacked before but when i returned home he was the only dog with blood on him and the only dog that had been previously telling the pup off for getting 2 close, while the other girls played or accepted the pup.
even thow i didnt see it, it was obviously the male staff that killed and was interested in advise on how 2 act upon this.
neutering him is a small sacrifice for what he's done, i was aware that territory maybe an issue and was going to seperate them off before the male pup reached an age of sexual maturity but i cant believe this has happened? he was just a pup and the staff must have lost it which he's never done to his own pups or any other dog before?
please help....or give advise etc

I just found out that my foster dog has tapeworm, round worm, AND hookworm. He was treated by vet yesterday everything else is fine..BUT I am worried about my other 2 dogs...The Vet said as long as my dogs are on Heartguard (it has some other worm preventative) and clean up his poop in yard, they should be fine...So my questin is how long will it take if my dogs caught any to showup? He's been here for 4 days...I am keeping an eye on my dogs poop (yuck)..Should I just deworm them anyway to be cautious? Thanks..
