Responsible breeders do not generally cross the coat types -- it deteriorates the quality of the coat....i.e., the wire is known for its thick, rough coat. When crossed with a smooth, even if wire is dominant, the wire coats that result from it will not be as thick and coarse as those of a wire/wire breeding.

From a functional standpoint, this diminishes the protective qualities of the coat.

The same is true when crossing a long to a smooth, or a long to a wire...you run the risk of diminishing the quality of the coat. So, unless the two dogs in question complement each other structurally and would improve each other in every other way, what's the point?

Wire is dominate so if the wirehaired has all wire parents/grandparents all the pup would be wirehaired.
