Persons who are allergic to dogs have a problem with dog dander. Dander is not the same as dandruff. Dander is present on the skin and in the coat but also in the saliva and at least sometimes in the urine of dogs. Allergic persons were recently blindfolded tested by being exposed to a variety of dogs, one at a time (one a day). Some of the dogs were low dander producers and some were high or normal dander producers. The allergic people suffered equally badly around ALL the dogs. There are NO breeds that are good for people with allergies to dander. So, I'm sorry but your dog would give your brother and sister major problems, no matter what kind it was. They *might* be able to tolerate being around a dog IF they get frequent, painful, allergy shots but there is no guarantee that it will work. I guess you will probably have to settle for having a dog only at your dad's place.

Definitely. My dogs have pretty bad allergies. They tend to eat at their skin to scratch or rub their face on the ground if their allergies are bothering them. Wheat is a BIG factor for allergies. I try to avoid anything with a lot of wheat and it has drastically reduced the allergies in my dog. They definitely can get a cold too! It's just something that will pass.

Yes and yes. And just like humans, sometimes they develop allergies as they get older that they never had before.
Take him to a vet if it gets where they are really bothered by it or it becomes somewhat severe. There are OTC things dogs can have but there are LOTS that are dangerous to them. Take him to the vet at least that one time to get you feelings confirmed and ask about using something that doesn't cost alot or need a presecription for future outbreaks or colds.

Yes, my Bassett was wheezing, heart beating faster, and gagging, or occassionaly throwing up. I was so concerned that it was something serious, so I took him to the Vet, and she told me it was nothing but allergies, and that this time of year was bad for them to be outside extended periods of time.

Yes. They can get both. Your vet can administer an allergy test to determine what he/she may be allergic too.

Also try switching your food to a lamb and rice formula. That helps too

Dogs do not get colds like humans do they get upper respiratory infections. Like kennel cough.
Allergies dogs do get and should be assessed by your vet.
If you feel that your dog has either than get a appointment with your vet to get your dog some help.
