The first thing you need to know about how to overcome this noise problem is you must ignore it, to go down and scold the puppy would be counter productive, irrespective of whether your appearance is positive or negative the fact that you appeared at all in response to the cries will have reinforced this crying instinct. If noise never elicits a response, then the pup will learn that this method of communication doesn't’ work.

What never works is waiting whilst the puppy makes more and more noise then finally becoming annoyed or exasperated and going to the puppy. All that would teach the little horror was being especially PERSISTENT really works!

Punishment does NOT teach your dog to be quiet, any more than it would a baby crying. Punishment or anger would stress him more' and could create behaviour problems or affect your future relationship.

You can help your puppy accept the separation more quickly by introducing the area you want the pup to stay gently and carefully. Feed favourite treats in this area, leave him a bone to nibble on!

Think as the puppy would think - you're warm and cozy with mom and siblings, and then all of sudden you're taken away to a new place with new smells and sounds and it will scare you. Your puppy is still a baby. Make him/her comfortable. Take an old t-shirt, wipe it all over your body, and let the puppy sleep in it to get used to your scent. Have a hot water bottle near the puppy so he can snuggle against it like mom. He's missing all the warmth from mom and siblings. Take it slow with the little guy (or girl). They will sleep a lot at that age but will be ready to explore a little bit after they wake up. Good luck!

could be only a few more days or a week or so.

When we brought our girl home (she is now 16wks) we bought her this little 'puppy pal' from petmsart, you warm up a bean bag thing and put it inside this little felt puppy, she loved it (and still does, carries it around with her constantly) It provided warmth from her as she was missing snuggling with her momma and littermates.

We also put a tshirt in there, either mine or fiances, so she had our scent and felt closer to us.

She stopped crying after a few nights, we just recently moved her crate into our room and she has started sleeping 9pm-5am which is a HUGE milestone. So maybe moving it into your room where she can smell you and know that you are right there with her will also help.

Also, throw her towels in the dryer for a few mins before bedtime so she can snuggle up in some nice warms blankies, that will help as well.

Good luck!

We never had this problem with ours but.. i have had friends deal with this. They put the kennel in the kitchen and turned the fan on the microwave on. It sounds werid but sometimes all they need is some noice to make them think they are not alone. We keep a fan going at night for our dog for some background noice. Hope this helps. It wont be to much longer, you just have to think of your new puppy as a new born baby.

Try putting an alarm clock that has a loud tick under a fuzzy stuffed animal. Make sure he is warm enough. Little ones are not used to being away from the warmth of Mom's fur yet.

put a stuffed animal in his/her bed with the pup. it also might help to have a old fashioned wind up alarm clock (don't set the alarm) to mimic the beating of mama's heart. also you can leave a radio playing soothing music on low for the puppy. the little one is in new surroundings minus it's mom and siblings. it is scarred and misses it's old canine family. sometimes it helps to get a kennel cage and keep it in the room with you.(we did that for my mom's shih-tzu when she first got him.) i wish you the best with your new family addition

It will last until he gets whatever it is he needs during the night and makes it cry, like food, a place to pee, or just your company.
