They like to drink water from the pool. Will the chlorine harm them?

We recently adopted a youngish, unneutered male, Pitt Bull (maybe a mix).

By "gentle" I mean get the dog to trust us, walk on a leash, obey commands like come, sit, and stay. He seems to be a sweet dog with no food agression issues, but he's been abused and is terribly frightened of being beaten. He used to be kept chained up in a yard, so to him a collar and leash are implements of torture.

We've started out by giving him lots of praise and petting when he does something good. Treats and praise when he obeys a command. And lots of easy walks around the neighborhood. We switched his old, tight harness (what he used to wear when chained up in the yard) to a choke collar and he has responded really well to this. He still can't figure out that he needs to stay on one side, but maybe with time and patience?

I have a chihuaha and his symptoms are: normally active dog is lethargic; cries out in pain on barely touching or sometimes no touch. Doesn't want to move very much on repositioning. No BM in a whole day noted.

I am getting a dog as soon as i finish college, and these are the breeds i am thinking about; a boxer, american bulldog, doberman, or german shepherd. I eventually want two dogs and the second will probably be one on that list also. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Please, tell me what you think!

My mothers neighbour has a cute little puppy, which only today I managed to approach and play with it. To my shock, I discovered that the poor little think is covered with ticks, has one sick eye and is clearly underfed.

Mom says he is a realy weird bloke, and I shouldnt say anything because I'm going to set a dispute. I respect the fact that my mother wants her peace and quiet, but I'm also concerned about this little creature that cannot defend itself.

My question is: how do I handle this matter? How do you educate someone so thick about animal care, without making it worse? And, can I possibly save all those mistreated dogs in my little town, you wont believe how people believe that animals are just "things".

Mind you, we are talking about Greece, where animal welfare is unknown and law enforcement on this subject is...zero. (actually u are considered somewhat weird if you make a fuss for stuff like that)

What do you people suggest?

We have a 12 week old puppy weimaraner. She is crated at night & has progressed (since 8 weeks old) from barking alot of the night to barking minimally.
She no longer barks when she is put in, but she does bark in the middle of the night (usually right before we are ready to let her out to go potty) & she barks in the morning (usually right before we are ready to get up & take her for a walk & feed her.) Its almost as if she has developed an internal clock, but its just a tad early. We've been ignoring her & not letting her out until she stops barking, but she still continues to bark at those times of the night. Any suggestions?

I'm really interested in getting a beautiful harlequin Great Dane and have been doing research for almost a year now.

I just wanted to know what people think of them from ownership, experience, or just opinions. Maybe how well you have notice them get along with other dogs, or how well you think they are to housetrain, etc.

Thanks!

We have a 12-week-old bull terrier and are trying to potty train him. He has never gone to the bathroom when inside his crate, but outside the crate he has problems with when and where he is supposed to go and not go. If he has an "accident" in the house, he will go when no one's there in the same room, yet when we take him outside to do his business, he won't go unless someone is out there in the yard with him. If we just let him out, he will stay on the porch, even if he has to go to the bathroom. He will sooner wait and go have that "accident" after he's come back in the house rather than do it in the yard on his own. Ultimately we want to him to be able go to the bathroom outside by himself, and we want to be able to do this with the least possible amount of crate confinement. Suggestions?

I am getting a black male toy poodle. I need to come up with 3 names for it bc it will be a registered dog. I like the name Kingston as #1, but need help with the other two. Anything would be great.

Also, my boyfriend is getting a black with brown spots male yorkie at the same time as me. He wants the name to be Twix (like the candy) but also needs some help. Please give ideas!!!

My dog is a 7lb. rat-cha, before my dog eats he will perform a ritual. he will take his snout and sort of sweep up and down towards the bowl as if there were pieces of food around the bowl he was trying to get in place around the bowl. The he puts his nose into one side of the bowl and pushes the food on the other side up...then he goes to the up side and pushes it down...what the heck is he doing?

Doberman Pinscher is my favorite, always has been. I also like Basset Hounds, Rottweilers, Airdale Terriers, English Bulldog, Pug, and Jack Russell. Hell, they are ALL cute! I do not like those annoying "yappy dogs".

The vet told my grandpa that when a dog wears a flea and tick collar and sheds, the hair has the chemicals in it and will kill fleas and ticks on the ground, not just on the dog.

My grandpa did not believe this.

My grandparents had built their house on land that was very tick infested. After about a year of using the flea and tick collar on the dogs-2 weeny dogs, they no longer had a tick problem on their land.

So the vet was right and the collars are wonderful.

My doggy got pregnant, but apparently she was only carrying one pup, and when the time came to give birth it was a stillborn. Now my dog is taking shoes, stuffed animals and anything else she finds lying around to her bed, and she's practically crying all day.
She's also lost her apetite, she won't even eat chicken or anything of the like.
I don't know if there's anything I can do to take her mind off it and get her back to her old hyper, cheery self. Any tips?

She loves people. We have had no problems with her health. If you are looking for a great dog, find a trusting pug breeder and i am sure you will love your new pug!:)
