Please, tell me what you think!

My mothers neighbour has a cute little puppy, which only today I managed to approach and play with it. To my shock, I discovered that the poor little think is covered with ticks, has one sick eye and is clearly underfed.

Mom says he is a realy weird bloke, and I shouldnt say anything because I'm going to set a dispute. I respect the fact that my mother wants her peace and quiet, but I'm also concerned about this little creature that cannot defend itself.

My question is: how do I handle this matter? How do you educate someone so thick about animal care, without making it worse? And, can I possibly save all those mistreated dogs in my little town, you wont believe how people believe that animals are just "things".

Mind you, we are talking about Greece, where animal welfare is unknown and law enforcement on this subject is...zero. (actually u are considered somewhat weird if you make a fuss for stuff like that)

What do you people suggest?

I know how you feel, Ive been through the same thing. If you're willing to, do what I did. I went out and got some dog shampoo, medecine, flea collar, food, and eye drops and gave my neighbors dog a bath and cleaned him up. It took a while and I had to do it in secret, just asking if I could play with the dog for a while, but I got it done. But later on they abused the dog so I called the Animal Help Facility in my town.

I hope i helped!

OMG, that's awful.

I don't know if you can educate this man about pet care considering the disgusting lack of empathy he so clearly shows.

You could offer to take the dog in for a check up. The vet could take care of the ticks and see how bad the eye is.

I know it's not your financial responsibility, but if you can't call animal protection, and you can't teach the owner, there really is no other option.

You might try affecting the larger picture and start a grass roots animal proctection society.

Even though there are many who may share your neighbours twisted views, there are probably many others like you, who would love a way to help with this problem.

You need to do something, even if it does cause a dispute - or even if people think you are "weird". This is abuse! Sometimes doing the right thing is hard. Maybe you can offer to take the puppy from this jerk! I'm sure you're not the only one in your town that cares for animals. Maybe you could start some sort of organization to help animals in need (someone has to be the first to step up). I am glad that here in the U.S. we can at least call our local animal control and they will intervene when an animal is being abused. People can be arrested, jailed, and fined for animal cruelty.

I hear you; some time ago I had the same problem with a neighbour and still hate myself now for not doing anything about it.

It's difficult, I guess it depends on how well you and your neighbour get on. You could always offer to take the pup for a walk (you didn't mention how old it was). Perhaps this would be a good way of establishing a repor with your neighbour and give you a better oportunity to take a closer look?

Another option of course is to call the RSPCA, animals don't deserve to be treated this way. If you and your neighbour fall out about it; at least you can rest safe in the knowledge you've done all you can do.

I wish you all the best with this one, it's a tough descision to make.

I have been in the same situation. All the kids in the street were playing outside and this cute little puppy came running down the road. I caught him and noticed how skinny he was!
I took him to my mum and she called some number and we fed him. We couldnt find the owner. It was night time by then so we introduced him with my other dog and they got along very well. We kept him for the night because mum had said we found him before and he was skinny. Mum took him to the vets the next moring to see if she had something wrong with him or he wasnt looked after. The vet said he wasnt fed or looked after. We kept him for a few days until we found his owner. He was about 2 years old. I dont know how we found his owner, but mum was talking to her neighbour and she said the lady doesnt look after him and when she goes on holidays, she offers to feed him but the lady refuses, she used to go and feed him anyway in the end. Mum confronted her and said I know you dont feed him and you dont deserve a dog! or any other animal. The owner said she didnt really want him anyway. There were 2 bowls with nothing in them and a chain that I assume they tied him up to, but because she was so skinny he got out. And then through the fence that had a 10cm gap. Mum told the lady that she wouldnt give him back, my mum is very nice and wouldnt give the dog back, for the dogs sake. She said I will keep it for give it to a home or something. The lady gladly gave him to us and mum took all his bowls and everything so it would be harder to get another one. The lady had kids so mum said the kids could come down and see him whenever they wanted, though they never came. We took him to the vets to get all his shots and to make sure he was healthy. He is still here with us, he made good friends with my other bog and was very lost when she died. Though he is a very happy dog now, the vet said he would have died if we didnt rescue him. He has made good friends with my rabbit and pony too. I suggest you take the dog and dont give it back?? try what we did. It worked. Good luck

despite if that's a domestic dog and is scared (no longer irritating...SCARED) then he's being mistreated. placed some nutrition out and notice how he reacts in case you step back and he is going at cutting-edge to it and eats like loopy they are not feeding him good or under no circumstances. in case you sense they are not treating the canines dazzling the two take the canines in your self or hit upon a sparkling homestead for it. I relatively have completed this on dissimilar activities with many animals and that they by no ability look to care and often get a sparkling puppy that I finally end up doing a similar ingredient to, only confirm you do it the the best option way. you won't be able to easily take the canines, you need to confer with the the best option human beings, and then all you desire is a few notices left on a door whilst they are not homestead or surpassed to them straight away. as quickly as they disbursed time is up he's yours, yet you need to look at your states rules first. in case you do no longer pick to do it your self for concern of entering into hardship or a neighborly combat, you are able to constantly call animal administration or the SPCA the place he's often placed to sleep only because of the fact he's a sprint skittish. and you need to ignore appropriate to the persons telling you to ideas your man or woman enterprise because of the fact they're probably only asserting that because of the fact they handle their animals a similar way as your friends do and don't care approximately animals. and as for what bonnie pronounced you already defined that for the period of your new question which you went and asked them if it became into theirs so. :P And anybody could have typos whilst attempting to form rapid. it relatively is not any longer a internet site for insults that's a internet site for help.

If its at your moms can you snatch it and take it to your house? Clean himup and find a good home for him?

Hate to say it but even where there are animal control officers its not as easy as you think to stop the abuse. We actually had a police officer tell animal control " At least he isn't molesting the children" And all the judge did was make him spay her. We did get the girl on the second round when he had left the dog in a trailer and she was on a 3 foot chain in a foot of feces. Board of health is more likely to be a factor in stopping things than what the judges allow animal control to do.

wow.....that is tough. You could really get into this and find other like-minded people in greece who are fed up with the animal treatment. You're not the only one. Maybe the majority doesn't think like you but then again..maybe a lot of people do think like you and just don't think their voices will ever be heard.

I'd start small. In your own town or neighborhood. Just gaining the trust of others like your neighbor will help to win him over to take better care of his dog. If he trusts and likes you as a friend then he will be more willing to listen to any arguement you have in defense of the pup. If you yell at people and make them angry then they will never listen to what you have to say.

Maybe ask him if you can walk his dog every once in awhile..or take him out to play. Then start getting into his head. Ask questions. I mean, why in the world would someone want a dog just to have it fall ill and die? As a guard dog? why does he have it? can he bnot pay for the vet? Ask Questions!

If you don't have the law on your side there really isn't anything you can do. If you're old enough to purchase supplies you can buy some tick repellant, dog food and other necessaties and bring it to the neighbor. It's an olive branch and a way to breach the topic of his dog and his mistreatment w/o causing a fuss.

Mention your concern, give him the supplies - implying you though you could help and ask if he intends to keep the puppy. Maybe you could take it off his hands?!!

Good Luck

well i was going to say call the cops ( like we do here in Iowa) but if that guy is not taking care of his dog and nobody wants you to start problems by confrunting him, then if its possible you sould help the puppy by taking the ticks off him, washing him up maybe, and take anouther look at his eye. If it has goop init then you need some eye drops. But most of all do what you feel is right (poor puppy feel really bad for him too)!
