She hasn't been licking too much, but has been scratching at her belly. I tell her no, which stops it for the moment, but I'm afraid she'll open the incision over night. Any thoughts on what I can do to help her? thanks!!

I live in an area where, within 50 miles of my home, all the general stores and even the pet stores sell nothing but crappy dog food (pedigree, science diet, etc). Thusly, I am forced to feed my dog home cooked meals. Yet I do not know what would be the best ingredient for my dog. Can anyone help me out? I am thinking about cooking chicken, but I know that chicken is not enough. Basically, I need a home cooked meal ingredient that would be very healthy for my dog.

I should note that one store had ‘Royal Canine’. This food is pretty good, right? Still, I would rather do the whole home cooked meal thing.

I have a 6 year old lab-mix. We recently adopted a chihuahua puppy and since we brought him home, my older dog starts drooling excessively whenever he is around the puppy. He isn't dehydrated (I've seen him drinking water). Is this a stress reaction?

this is my dog thomas but im not sure what kind he is. i always thougth he was a border terrier, could he be? i found a pic of a border terrier but it doesnt exactly look like him, maybe cause he has longer fur idk

He is a lab mix of maybe 6 months or more. I just adopted him last week and he was terrified of anyone who came into contact with him. Then he got use to me and everything went really well. As of now he runs, he drinks water, eats his food and there seems to be no signs of rabies anywhere. He is really friendly and tries to but he tries to bite my hand everytime I pat his head. and my hand just really barely misses. I just gaved him a rabies shot 3 days ago and i think he's fine now. Before the shot I was playing with him and he kept licking me i had an open cut on one of my fingers but it was covered by a bandage. I wash up everytime I play with my dog though. I'm curious because i don't want to pop up on the 6 oclock news dead.

i just had my male dog neutered, and he was suppossed to be neutered when he was a puppy, but the guys take it personall, so he finally got it done. 2 questions here- why do guys take it personally and how long does it take for an adult Boxer to recover?

My idea here is that guys believe its their balls getting snipped off, so they protect the dogs. anybody else think so?

my labrador is 2 1/2 years old and had her second litter of 10 pups 5 weeks ago. She has been the perfect mum to them in every way but just over a week ago she stopped feeding them all of a sudden and freaks when they touch her. we can't get her to feed them at all so we've been feeding them (on vet advised food) ourselves.
But i have noticed that a couple of her teats have become quite enlarged and red. She is not her normal self and seems to be sleeping a lot which (being a labrador) is not like her at all!
We took her temperature tonight and it was 38.8c.
i called the local emergency clinic and the lady that was there barely spoke english and coudn't understand me.
I looked on the internet for ages but the info out there is so varied that i don't know what to believe!!!
What should her normal temperature be?
Should i be worried about her?

My dog is a sheltie.
He is 3 years old, and since we just leave a bowl of food he eats whenever he wants and goes to the bathroom whenever he wants.
I think that he should eat "dinner" and go poo before everybody goes to sleep.
I don't want him to be constipated during the night.
I've heard you give the dog food twice a day, but is it twice a day of three tiems a day?
I've also learned that you give the dog 30 minutes to consume the food. Is that true?

My Mut has normal eyelids and then underneath that there is an opaque eyelid that closes sideways. Whats up with that? You can only see it when shes sleepy. If you wake her up her normal eyelids open and you can see the second ones halfway open in the process of closing. What is it?

My dog started falling all over the place because of his weak hind legs. We took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with diabetes. He hasn't walked in 3 days and I believe he has diabetes neuropathy, I looked on the internet and it says it's common in cats but can sometimes happen to dogs (I guess we are one of the few dog owners to go through this). Has anyone else experience this? will he walk again after we get his diabetes in check? any info will be helpful.

I got my Shih-Tzu neutered thursday, he is very sore & swollen ,He wont let me ice the swelling like the vet said i could .... i am wondering , how long is the swelling going to last ? what i should look for in case it gets infected , can i do anything for pain ... anyone who has had their dog neutered ,please tell me what to expect or if you have any advice.... My puppy that is 5 mo old has lost a tooth while we were playing with a pull toy. Should she lose any teath at such a young age? It dosent seem to bother her at all. She is a miniature Doxson.
