I would think that any dish washing liquid would be too harsh for your dogs skin. As far as flea, you might drown some, but you won't kill them. I would get a good flea killing shampoo with skin conditioners.

Dawn Dish soap washes fleas off - fairly pointless. Even if it actually kills the fleas on the animal (debatable) this too is fairly pointless - you need something that PREVENTS fleas as well as kills, because where fleas are on an animal, they're in the environment too. If you wash your dog in dish soap all that's going to happen is that new fleas will just hop right on him once he's dry.
Don't mess about with home remedies, if your dog has fleas, go to the vet for something like Frontline. If he doesn't have fleas, still use Frontline because prevention is better than cure!

EDIT: Don't bathe an animal within 2 days of using Frontline - Frontline works by spreading throughout the natural oils of the skin, if you wash the dog, particularly in dish soap, you'll be washing those oils off.

would not recommend ever using dishwashing detergent, of any brand on your dog. Think of what it would do to your skin if you bathed with dishwashing detergent, and poor pup cant put lotions on afterwards.
Get a good dog flea repellent shampoo with conditioners and after the dogs hair is dry, apply either advantage or frontline between their shoulder blades so that they cant lick it. Both advantage and frontline are excellent flea killers, and work within 24 hours, and it should be applied monthly during flea season, or year round if you live somewhere where it does not frost. The major difference between advantage and frontline is that both are flea killers, frontline also kills ticks, so it you live in a heavily wooded area and your dogs can also get ticks, I would recommend frontline.
some dogs also get flea allergies and a single flea can drive them crazy, itching, itching, itching until they get hot spots and bleed. if this happens try a bendryl and if that doesnt work, take dog to vet for a cortisone shot.
good luck, I'm sure pup will feel better when the fleas are gone!

Actually, its excellent to use for fleas - as long as you do not use it too much, once a month MAX.
The reason its so effective in killing fleas is because the liquid is thicker then most flea and tick shampoos. It works by not only drowning them, but suffocating them also. But be sure you are using the original Dawn - just in the blue bottle, not any of the other scents, ESPECIALLY the citrus kind. This has shown allergic reactions in dogs and cats, with some being fatal.
I use a once a month treatment of Frontline and Dawn. Because the Dawn leaves the dogs squeaky clean, I scrub them down with that at night and when they're totally dry and clean, I put the Frontline on the next morning.

For a very dirty dog Dawn is OK. It does cut grease & oil so it will strip your dog of any of its natural body oils. If you use it, use a conditioner too.
Fleas on the dog will be killed or stunned & will go down the drain. It does not prevent them, though. But, keep in mind for every 'one' you see there are '500' more you don't see. So you will need to treat the areas the dog goes as well as the dog.
Go to Wally World (Wal-mart) & get some flea shampoo for the dog & something to treat the house & yard.

It is good to use occasionally but using it to often can take out to much oil out of the dogs hair and cause skin problems.
yes it will kill the fleas on the dog but will not prevent them.
for every flea on the dog there is about 100in the house so the house also needs t be treated.
Also flea preventative should be used on the dog after the bath.

dawn is a great product. i work in a vet clinic, and every animal that comes in to have a bath gets washed in dawn. it will not dry out the skin no more than any other shampoo......only if you use it too much.
pretty much anything you wash your dog in will kill fleas......they will drown.

No don't do it. It will dry the dogs skin out and make it itch.
You can kill fleas with any kind of shampoo as long as you keep the dong covered in suds long enough to suffocate the fleas.
It would be better to use people shampoo, best to use dog shampoo.

no it will dry out the skin. Use skin so soft. on them just a little in the water. That keeps fleas off and makes them smell good.

It is really harsh and should not be used on a regular basis; only initially to get a flea infestation under control, until you can get to the store (or better yet the vet) and get something else...Capstar, Frontline, etc.
