She hasn't been licking too much, but has been scratching at her belly. I tell her no, which stops it for the moment, but I'm afraid she'll open the incision over night. Any thoughts on what I can do to help her? thanks!!

I have the cone, which I put on her when I leave and at night. That helps prevent licking, just not the scratching.

Great ideas so far! :-)

Sometimes a t-shirt can help keep her from scratching. Hopefully the vet gave you several days of pain medication? This will help with the inflammation and discomfort as well as pain.

It's best if you can get by without putting anything on it.
I would not suggest the doggie diapers as the "waist band" may irritate the incision with movement. If you feel you must put something on it, then the Ace Bandage would be the better choice, as it will stay in place better with minimal irritation to the wound.

Pet stores often sell e-collars (those cones you see dogs wearing). It'll prevent her from licking the area

Many pet-supply stores sell "doggy diapers". Normally these are used to keep in-heat bitches from making messes, and to prevent them from mating, but if you buy a good-quality one and make her wear it, she will not be able to scratch. If she manages to break through the "diaper" put on a more expensive one. Check the diaper regularly.

Wrapping her tummy with an ace bandage might help. Just use it for the overnight so her stitches get air thru the day.
