kay...i think you should let her be for a few days, trying to make her happy. if it goes on longer, adopt a puppy, or even a kitten and let her "mother" that. most dogs are eager to be a mother for another dog if they didn't get their puppy.

She may be sick with a uterine infection, or her hormones could be out of whack after a bad pregnancy. She needs to be seen by a vet, and have some bloodwork done. The carrying around of stuffed animals is not too abnormal given the situation, but the complete loss of appetite is...it may indicate a physical problem, rather than just depression.

My heart goes out to you and your mama dog.
Lot's of love and tenderness will hopefully pull her out of it! If not the vet may need to take blood and make sure her pregnancy hormones have dissipated. It is treatable so don't worry.
My older dog was a rescue & he had a licking problem. He licked everything ALL day long!
We got him stuffed babies and that helped SOME. but when we got a puppy this year he bonded to it! They now groom each other happily (not too much either). he no longer excessively grooms.

First, take her to the vet to make sure that she birthed all the puppies and there's not one still undelivered or an infection or other physical problem.
If she's just depressed, this is normal--dogs mourn the loss of puppies just like people mourn the loss of a baby. Your vet can give her medication for the depression as well.
Give her lots of love, and good luck.

She's still in the mama dog mode. She's gathering the shoes and stuffed animals in her nest as if they were her pups. Give her time and she will move on. I hope everything turns out fine. If she continues not to eat take her to the vet, also check petco they sell appetite stimulates.

You need to take her to the vet. It is called a false pregnacy. She may even have milk in her ****..My dog had one once. She kept carrying around a toy hamberger. She also kept sitting on me and got real upset if I tried to go anywhere. Well I called the vet and he said bring her in. The hamberger and I were her Puppies in her mind. She also had milk. He gave her some kind of shot and she was her old self in no time! I really thought she was having a nervous breakdown. Take her to the vet.

Oh my gosh, that poor dog! That is so very sad. I feel for you, I would suggest cheering up her life a bit, go for walks daily and give her a lot of treats. Run with her, or go on a road and have her off the road and have her run. She'll make endorphens (sp?), yes even endorphens make dogs happy. Maybe even get it a new lover, so she can have more puppies!

Do something new and exciting with her. Remind her how to live life again. Take her to the lake, beach, the woods, or a car ride to someplace special. Buy her new toys, treats, and give her lots and lots of love. Sometimes they need help snapping out of it. Maybe even arrange a doggy playdate. Good luck and I hope she feels better soon.

Oh, I am so sorry. I almost started crying when I read that.
I know that the only thing that a dog truly wants is to be with their master....honest, that is what makes them happy. Just let your dog be around you and try to play....time heals all wounds. They are really just like us.

I went through the exact same thing with my chihuahua. I bought her a stuffed animal, a beef and chedder and evetually she came out of it. All you can really do is love and comfort them.
