You don't say what kind of dog it is. there are many types of shampoo's for many different uses. I have a Bichon Frise which is white so i have to use a shampoo especially for white dogs. Also the breed is susceptibe to eczema and skin problems , so i use a dog tea tree shampoo. You can use this on most dogs, even if they're not white. My dog smells really nice when washed in this. However after a few days, the smell disappears a little and the dog smell creeps back in but it's not offensive, just doggy. I'm afraid if this is the smell you mean there's not alot you can do. remember though that too much washing isn't good for a dog as it strips essential oils and things from their coats and skin, also it can stop flea treatments from working.

Some dogs smell stronger than others, I personally never bath my dogs unless they have rolled in something disgusting, as it isn't good for them, they need the oils in their skin/coat, the smell you are talking about is probably on the dogs skin and you will never get rid of it, it is a natural smell and you may have to put up with it I'm afraid. If a dog such as a rescue Newfoundland was always being bathed it would lose it's natural oils and it would have a lot of trouble keeping warm when it had to jump into freezing water to rescue someone, so these oils are VERY important.

i think this depends on the shampoo you use and amount. The best one i personnally think are Johnson medicated shampoo, i always use this and it works for me! I no the smell is not nice, buying a cheap shampoo (not that i am saying you have) dosent pay off. If the medicated dosent work, you can buy one for smell dogs. My sister brought a very expensive shampoo from a pet stall at the county show and that was great, i believe it was on qvc as well. Good luck

I got a new dog about a month ago and I had this same problem!!! It will take a couple of times to get the smell out completely. In my case I don't think the previous owner ever bathed this dog so he was really stinky. I had to wash him about 3 times before he smelled better and then once every week after that. Good Luck!!!

i would use a shampoo that smells really good that wont harm the dog!!! my best friends puppy had that problem but they got him a certain fruit smelling shampoo and bethed and brushed and dried him and he smelled way better!!! make sure you arent bathing him to much either because that can dry out there skin which could be causing a smell...my dog has really dry skin and it can smell bad if she isnt groomed regularly

first of all, make sure you're bathing the puppy in dog shampoo - soap dries out their skin. I highly recommend taking your puppy to a groomer - they have special products that allow them to clean the dog very well and have them smelling great. I too was not able to get "the dog smell" off my dog until I went to a groomer. First, ask people u know for groomer recommendations.

She is a dog love so she will smell like one. You shouldnt try and make her smell like any-thing else that is the way dogs know who they are and how others detect her presence. If another dog sniffs her and doesn't like her "new" smell then it could attack her out of confution. Jst be carefull ok

Whats wrong with her smelling like a dog? She is one....theres nothing horrible about that smell... my dog smells lovely, natural. Of course its a different matter if she rolls in a dead fish or fox poo......then of course I wholly agree that is not a pleasant smell and a bath in absolutly in order!!
