When we bought my dog we were told he was a straight labrador cross poodle. But we were looking at calenders and he looks nothing like the labradoodles, but everything like a goldendoodle (golden retriever cross poodle). Is there anyway that we can tell for sure?

Do you actually look into their eyes and talk to them, only to see their expression.....as if they understand what you are saying?? What's one of the things you say often to your dog?

I have a 10 1/2 year old female black lab who has been diagnosed with an eye tumor. The vet says that the eye has to come out. Of course he also said that there is the possablilty that the tumor would not grow any more than it has. Of course it could grow further and expand the cancer beyond the eye. We noticed the spot about 18 months ago and the size of the spot has increased about 50% since then to about 3/16 of an inch square, just below the iris of her right eye. I don't want to take the eye if her quality of life is going to diminish markedly. She'll be 11 in december and is in otherwise good health except for the normal lab ailments associated with that age, i.e. small benien grouths here and there and getting a bit creaky in the joints. I've had labs for years and accept this as a normal process of ageing. She may only have a few years left anyway and I hate to deprive her of half her sight if she would not be happy, but I would reluctantly do it if she would accept it.

I took my puppy to the vet this afternoon, they squeezed us in thank goodness. It turns out she does have a urinary tract infection and the vet mentioned that she had crystals as well. My vet prescribed me Clavamox for the next two weeks.
I was hoping to hear a little bit more about crystals, and if she gets over the uti I was planning on giving her cranberry pills to help try to stop more uti's, is that a good idea?

My border collie is obessed with orange toys. He will choose an organge toy over any color toy. We tested him to know for sure. He had some blue toys, green & yellow. He chose only the orange toys everytime (we traded orange toys). I was told they can only see in grey/black/white.

Why do people say "Sh*t zoo" instead of how its properly pronounced "Sheet Zoo"? Even people that own them don't say it properly. Same with Bishons. People call them Bich-ons. When you look at the spelling of Shih Ztu, were does it look like "sh*t" is in there?

I have a 10 year old terrier and she's acting weird. She was spayed before we got her, and I've never seen this before, but she's constantly licking herself. I think I saw discharge, too.

Does anyone know if she can get in heat if she's spayed?

I would LOVE to get a boxer. So would everyone else in my family. But they supposedly have alot of health issues, like more susceptible to cancer, and tumors at a younger age.

My 14 year-old Beagle had an abscessed tooth a few years ago. Her face was all puffed up and she barely moved. I took her to the vet and they pulled some teeth and she's been fine. A couple of days ago, a small swollen spot appeared on her face, almost like a bug-bite or something. The next day it swelled and I thought she might have another abscess, even though she's been eating fine and acting totally normal. Today, the swelling is almost gone but I'm still a bit worried. I hate taking her to vet unless I have to (she hates it too and it really gets her stressed out!). Should I still be concerned about a possible abscess?

My female boxer just turned 8 weeks. She is very thin and I can see her bones. Is this normal? Is she underweight? She's 14.5 pounds and is about 13 inches tall.

My 2 yr old male German shepherd is so territorial and protective of my family, he terrifies anyone who comes over. Delivery men, cable repairmen, mail carriers, friends, etc. all have been sent running from the door because he acts like he'll tear them to pieces.
He is perfectly fine with my family, my daughters can both roll him around and stick their hands in his mouth, and I don't have the slightest hesitation about it. He acts like they are his own children. But someone comes near them, and the hair on his back goes up and the vicious barking starts. I love the way he protects us, but I'm tired of having to put him in the garage anytime someone comes over. How do I begin?
