Dogs - May 2007

My toy breed dog seems to wheeze every once in a while. It sounds sort of like what a cat sounds like when it is trying to hack up a hair ball, but in this case, the sound is coming from the back of his throat. Does anybody have any idea why he does that?

My 15 week old german shepherd puppy has been scratching a lot. Today I found red bums and it was like a bad rash under his armpits. Dose he have fleas? I just gave him a bath last week. If he dose have fleas please tell me what I can do to get rid of them and keep them from coming back.

The bones are completely broken, in two, not just fractured. Right below what would be her elbow. Not that my vet doesnt know what he's doin but i mean come on, just a splint and some tape?? I really feel sorry for her. I'm just lookin for peoples opinions.

Okay, so my neighbor purchased a dog about a year ago. The dog has no shots, tattoes and is not fixed. She has not even seen a vet. I told her that it was almost heartworm season, and she asked what it was. So I explained it to her and she called up the vet and asked how much it would cost. The vet said it was $150 including the medicine, and my neighbor says she can't afford it. I would offer to pay, but I own 7 dogs myself and there is no discounts available at this time. I was just wondering, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being extremely important and 1 meaning it doesn't really matter, how important would you say it is?

was taken out ,the pinky one and also she scraped her belly on the stairs and has a little cut...should i take her to the vet and waste money or will she be okay and i just wash her off with soap? I just don't want to spend a whole lot of money at the vet if it is something simple and she wont get sick...advice please! Thanks

Why do they not do yearly titers instead to see, if the dog needs the booster? What do you think about vaccinosis? I understand the reason for the original vaccines, and even humans need boosters for tetanus, but that is not given every year. Do you think our dogs are being boostered too much?

I left for work and she was fine, when I got home the house was covered in blood , fecis, vomit and diarrhea, i live over an hour from the vet and the next day she is doing a lil better, with only lil signs of blood in her stool. is there any home remedy? or what could this be all of a sudden.

The dog isn't full grown yet, but is very strong and exuberant. Will fixing the dog help the aggression problem? Can they ever feel safe with this dog? She is thinking of getting rid of it but wants to give it a chance, but not at the expense of her kids' safety. What kind of training might help?

My dog is having hills s/d for one months to clear up struvite crystals (which is £160 for one month!!!) and then needs to go on to a maintenance diet for the rest of his life of hills c/d which is even more expensive.

What i want to know is whether there is an affordable alternative or i am happy to cook food for him myself if that is an option. Has anybody tried this, or is there something extra special about hills food that my dog needs? I expect not, but i will afford it if i have to.

My male dog is a cross between masstive, lurcher and rotti ...he's a very hyperactive dog...i've tried taking him to like doggy training to see if i can stop him jumping up at me and actually manage to take him for a walk and not him taking me lol I went to this training for 3 weeks and Ok fair enough he wasn't learning but the the woman holding this training course said i should leave coz she couldn't help...and asked y and she said he's just to hyper active and she doubts he will ever learn...what can i do? just leave it as that and put up with him jumping up at me and taking me for walks ...

My three month old puppy just recently at about 12 am last night couldn't stop peeing. She would pee and then a couple of seconds later would try to pee again but nothing would come out. She's been doing this since then, it seems like she feels like she has to pee all the time.
And about 1 am she vomited. And this morning at about 8 am she vomited again and the peeing thing is still going on.
She already has a vet appt on Monday for regular shots and check up when I take her then I am going to have them check her out for what's been going on....
I just wanted to know your thoughts and what I should expect when I take her to the vet on Monday!
