there is a chihuahua that goes to the dog park we visit and his name is brutus. They have a big spike collar on him and it's so cute because they are so small, yet usually have a big man attitude. I think you should name him something beefy... like

Brutus
Buster
Porter
Zeus

etc.

However, keep in mind that dogs respond better to names ending in an "e" sound. Especially if he started out as Lucky. so you could do .. Freddy, Eddie, etc.

Best way is to get him home and observe his personality. Then see what fits. It'll come to you. Keep us posted on what you pick and Good Luck!

While I would suggest you consider the names of book, movie, tv show and other characters and the names of your personal heroes and favorite people and/or get a "what shall we name the baby?" type book (borrowed from library), here is a list of possibilities, both human and canine, that might suffice:

Archie (little, like the bug of the same name)
Boomerang (because he might fly off and return)
Chick (short for Chihuahua)
Danny (Danny, Boy!)
Elmo (small, funny, cute)
Frisky (this was my mom's Chihuahua's name)
Gonzales (like Speedy)
Horatio (the name of a Chihuahua in some movie)
Isaac (for the big eyes, or if you like Newton)
Johnny (after Johnny Depp)
Kewpie (small and cute like the doll)
Les (well, he sure ain't more!)
Mortie (or Muerte, from Undercover Blues)
Nino (imagine a tilda over the second "n"-- he's your child)
Oliver (eyes that say, "please, sir, can I have some more?")
Peppe/Peppy (most of the little guys have a lot of pep)
Quiero (as in "Yo Quiero Taco Bell")
Rex (usually used for big dogs, so a bit of a joke)
Shotgun (well, his bark may sound like one)
Tito (the name of the Chihuahua in Oliver and Company)
Ulysses (after Homer's famous hero)
Vaughn (if you think he's cool)
Wentworth (if you like stuffy/respectable sounding names)
Xerxes (if he's king of the household)
Yoshi (kind of a cute name)
Zack (cool, and cute if he attacks a toy-- Zack Attack!)

Hope the list and tips are helpful for choosing or generating your own ideas. You might just list your favorite name for each letter of the alphabet and say them while lookilng at him until you find one that fits.

i hate when people change the names,
my fiance adopted 2 cats, both around 5 weeks old, Coal (black cat) and Spice (calico)
my fiance wanted to change the names, but i thought we shouldnt, would you adopt a kid and change name? just seems wrong.
As it turns out both the cats as well as every other cat from that "rescue center" had been exposed to feline lukemia, both died within a year. Now we cant imagine their names being any different. On top of that, it would be different if you already had a name picked out, but your asking us for names? Its your choice, but think about it.
if you have to change it, i like Benny, thats my brothers name. LOL

Try this web site if you can't think of anything. My dog went to the vet 2 times before he even had a name because I couldn't think of anything I ended up going with Winston

I would name him Bruiser. That was the name of Elle Woods' dog (Reese Witherspoon) in Legally Blonde.

I have heard that dogs learn their name best if it ends with a "Y" such as the afore mentioned 'lucky' , Sandy,Rottie, Baby Boy, Billy, etc.

I think it would be a cute paradox if you named a Chihuahua Mr. Intimidation. That would be funny.
