Right now im feeding my three month old mini dachshund Purina beneful for puppies. I was on the AKC website and they have Eukaneuba food specialy formulated for dachshunds, and i was thinking about switching to that when shes an adult. Is there harm in switching the brands? Does anyone know which brand is better for the dog, and when will i know to switch her to adult food? I feed her purina because that is what the breeder suggested. Her dogs were beautiful and my puppy seems to be liking it just fine, but i want her to have the best quality food. Is Eukaneuba specialy formulated for dachshunds better?

These people who claim to be professional breeders, come on here and ask stupid questions. If they are calling themselves this, don't you think that they would know the answers to the stupid questions that they ask?? OMG!!

I just got a new puppy & went to Petsmart the other day; noticed that they have vet services on-site. Is it better or just for the conveience so it's sort of like one stop shopping? Get your pet to the vet while you shop? Are they any good?

My kids have been wanting a puppy, or young dog for a long time. I keep delaying the process of looking because my sons are rough with each other and I don't want them to hurt the dog. So, I just haven't even bothered to look.
They are a little older now and I am a little more ready to research the idea and kinds of breeds that would put up with 2 active boys.
I don't like toy dogs, or show dogs and any dogs that need hair cuts like poodles. I want a dog that has a good temperment and will put up with tons of playing.
I have thought about going to the pound but, I was thinking that perhaps a lot of the dogs there would have been abused and wouldn't be good with kids.
Like I said, I haven't put any real thoughts into this yet. And I most definitely will not get a dog at a drop of a hats notice. I do need to add a fence and get a dog house, etc. I am just ready to think about getting a dog within the next year, maybe... :)

About 6 weeks ago, my dog developed a really bad sneeze/cough that we took her to the vet for (it sounds so painful when she has a cough or sneeze attack), the vet heard the cough and said kennel cough (without looking to closely at her). We told her we did not think it was kennel. she gave us med's for kennel cough and it has now turned into pnemonia, she is now taking 7 pills a day with 3 more for her seizures. I believe the pnemonia is getting better, but I believe the first problem is still there. Does anyone else have any idea's on what this could be that I could bring up to the vet?
Mabye I will see a different vet at the same hospital. She also likes to eat the soil in the back yard (yuck)...

I am resending this question out because I feel like I needed to explain myself a little better. My dog "Copper" is a year and a half old and pretty much a puppy still. He is very attached to me and sits and cries at my front door everytime I run outside to take the trash out, or when I run down the hall to grab my mail. Now when I leave for work in the morning I put him is his kennel, he is very comfortable in there, he doesnt whine or bark when he is in there, also his kennel is actually very large for him so he has pleanty of room to move around. My work is right down the road from my apartment so I go home on my lunch breaks and take him out for a walk around the apartment complex and then I have to go back to work. I would just like to find out how to train him so I dont have to keep him is his kennel while I am at work.

My dog had her vaccines and was spayed a little over a month ago. Now she is acting totally crazy. She has been really boisterous suddenly, running around like a maniac and growling (not mean, just grumbly noises), barking at everyone and everything.. including me, and she keeps jumping up on me and biting my clothes and my arms. But we broke her of her biting habit when she was a puppy. Yesterday she literally was rolling around on the floor attacking the cat. What HAPPENED to her??? Why would she be acting this way? She is being so so bad, including chewing up everything in sight... and usually she would just drop it if I told her to, and find a toy. Now she runs away if I approach her to take whatever it is away. Why would this happen all of the sudden?
