modern wolves are decendants of the Dire Wolf, a prehistoric wolf. The Dire's evolved into today's wolves and all it's varied species across the world. Man, needing help with survival, domesticated the wolf over a long perod of thoughsands of years, the wolf, though selective breeding, has evolved into today's dogs and all the breeds you see hense. This is historically documented and researched.
So by that, dog's were not 'created' by any higher power other than the human hand and control over their breeding. No one just snapped there fingers and poof there's a golden retreiver. So feel free to think of a way of how the wolf's ancestor came to this world. It's been scientifically proven to have evolved from other critters that lived before it's time, but the Dire is thought to be the basic start of the canine lines.

Humans use selective breeding to change animals. Thats how we got farm animals; horses, camels, goats, sheep, cattle, pigs, cats and dogs, poultry such as hens and geese all started as wild animals.
We probably took the young from the mothers and raised them to adulthood. Its the easiest way to tame wild animals.
Dogs are descended from wolves, possible from a type of wolf that is now extinct. They've shared our homes for at least 10,000 years. Selective breeding means picking the stock that you want to breed from, and letting their offspring breed instead of eating them.
People prefer animals that look different, so a white pup in a litter would stand out from its brown litter mates and be bred from. Or one thats bigger or smaller than average. Over time you develop a strain of dogs that look similr, then you have a 'type'. When a type always breeds true and they all look very alike, you have a breed.

If you believe in creationism then you should know that God created all life. All creatures are therefore God's creatures but only mankind was made in His image.
If you believe in evolution you will know that all life began as micro-organisms which grew and evolved into the multitudinous life-forms now in existence.
These life forms include a rather slow and clumsy but long-lived naked ape (Homo-sapien) and a many-varied four-legged furry creature (Canis familiaris) that chose the naked ape as its favourite companion.
