Since you're not a responsible owner-to-be, I guess it's fortunate that you can't get one. What a jerk.

I use to work at the pound and the reason they want you to get the dog fixed is so that way they can try and keep the puppy population down. There are a lot of people out there that let their dogs breed but do not want them and in turn drop them off at the humane society or drop them off somewhere else. This puts the Humane Society in a bad situation because they only have so many kennels for the dogs and other animals that they have. It is nothing against you everyone has to get their dog fixed if they get it from the pound. Getting your dog fixed is Humane. If you do not wish to have a dog that is fixed then go somewhere else and buy a dog that you can have of your own.

Do you think dogs like staying in the pound? Only a small amount will be adopted out, for others it's the last stop. The humane society spayed and neuters them to control the population of these animals. They would much rather people be more responsible with pets so there aren't any in the pound but unfortunately their will always be irresponsible people. So unless you are perpared to step up to the plate I would not knock how they take care of matters!

Why do you think the dogs are at the pound? Because they're unwanted. They spay and neuter the dogs so they wont produce any more unwanted puppies. Plus, a fixed dog is less likely to have behaviour issues then a dog who hasn't been fixed. and also, pretty much all of the dogs there are mutts. I have never seen a purebred dog at any Humane Society, not once. Not many people are into mutts today, and although people might adopt them when they're "cute and tiny", once they grow up they'll probably end up at the same place.

Probably 99% of the animals in the Humane Society kennels are strays or dumps from animals not being fixed. In their perfect world, the kennels would not be needed, because every domestic animal would have a home. By fixing the ones they come into contact with, they make that goal a little closer to reality.

The reason why so many dogs are at the pound is because people don't spay/neuter their dogs. It causes them to roam and get lost, but also creates many unwanted puppies that people dump there. Or dump there when they get "too big." Just not enough good homes for them all. And the statistic is that only one in 10 or one in 12 dogs ever has a permanent home in their life.
They neuter dogs to stop the vicious cycle of birth and death.
It is the ONLY responsible choice.
Many cute little puppies are even euthanized because they aren't adopted at the county pound, so don't kid yourself.
And you may say your dog/or the dog you want is not a puppy - the dogs that get euthanized first because no one adopts them are large, black mixed breed dogs, pitbulls and pitbull mixes (and dogs that aren't but look like them), and hounds.

The pound by law has to newter or spay any stray dogs picked up by themselves in order to control the unwanted litters that may arrise from not doing this procedure. Strays are a major problem and i think it is more humane to "fix" these animals than to let thembreed and populate the earth with unwanted puppies. The black market for animals is huge as well and i can foresee people going to the pound to pick up these animals and then breed them for puppies. I think it is the most humane thing to do for them!

They want you to get the dog fixed to prevent more unwanted pets that will end up in pounds like the ones that are there now. Most dog pounds kill animals if no one adopts them, they're trying to prevent that. And I think it's very humane

Look around the pound - see how many dogs/cats are there. The humane societies/pounds/shelters do not want to see MORE animals in their care. They are trying to control the population of animals.

Did you happen to notice how MANY animals were in there in cages, miserable, and the poor peole working there doing the best they can. There are TOO many people out there that mistreat/ don't take care of the one animal they have, that's just what we need is that ONE animal to have puppies to not be taken care of. It is VERY humane. It also cuts down on animal abuse.

Because they don't want more dogs ending up there! Plus it is a good idea to get a fixed dog, for behavioural reasons too. If you are not a breeder, you don't need to keep the dog un-fixed, it's not even good for the dog. So please do rescue a dog, the idea of getting a dog from the pound is to rescue this dog who may be killed otherwise, not to multiply them! I totally disagree to killing them if they are unwanted, though!
