Does anyone have suggestions for a good name for a beagle puppy I just found? He is brown and black. Looking for something out of the ordinary...

I guess I should have said I found him at the pound. Then people would not be thinking I am taking someelse's dog.
He was a stray dropped off dog, that I am giving a good home.

I'd go for Rufus. When I think of a cute little beagle puppy who probably trips over his own ears, I love Rufus, but I like the "Fleagle the Beagle" name too. If it's a girl, I'd chose Sadie or Marcie, they seem to have a ring to them.

I found a German Shepard on the mesa and wound up calling her Mesa. For unique names that suit your new found friend, watch his personality, how he eats, sleeps and plays. You will be able to find a wonderful name that is perfect for him.

When I was about 6 years old, I had a male beagle that we called Beetle Bailey after the Sunday Funnies character. It suited him as he was always digging in the yard and chasing bugs of all sorts.

Good luck

You FOUND him? How about you see if he has an owner? Puppies dont just show up out of the sky, you know.

Place flyers up in windows, etc. If no one claims him, you can keep him. i know we lost our yorkie(4 yrs old) and someone just kept him with them until one day we were walking into town and we saw him. The 'owners' claimed he was theirs and they'd had him for 7 years! What a load of crap! We had to get the cops in to actually get our dog back and the people almost went to jail.

Morel of the story, make sure he doesn't belong to someone, and only then should you keep him.

Try out a lot of different names before you settle on one YOU like, it should be a name that your dog will actually respond to. I am not crazy about the name of my puppy, but SHE loves it and has responded to it from the moment she heard it. (I had given her a name but that changed!) Dogs respond well to 2-syllable names. Choose a name adapted to your dog taking into account its size, sex, character.

Biblical - Joseph - because you got him out of prison (read Genesis)

Mythological - Loki - the Norse god of mischief

Literary - Puck - the imp of mischief - Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream

But there's nothing wrong with "Duke" or "Prince" or "Snoopy" either.

Rex is a good name but if you are looking for an out of the ordinary name maybe rocky because the way you describe him he mite look a little like rocky road ice cream. One other good name is honey and maybe Buckley. Okay maybe those are weird but there is some suggestions
