During the last 3 to 4 weeks of pregnancy you might want to increase her food slowly so that by the time she delivers she will be eating only about 25-30% more than she was before hand. That really is not a lot. Make sure you add this in slowly and try not to overdo it. You do not want your dog gaining too much weight. A lot of well meaning pet owners start increasing their mommy’s to be food intake right from the word go, because they are under the assumption that they need the extra calories to grow their puppies. This is not true at least not for the beginning and middle of the pregnancy. It is only in the last few weeks. The reason why you are going to wait until the end of the pregnancy to increase her food intake is because that is when the puppies really begin to grow. Your dog will need more nutrients and energy to grow these pups. Some vets will recommend you switch her over to a growth/puppy food because it will provide the nutrients for her growing family. Other vets will suggest your put her on a nursing/lactation diet.

Purina has an adult dog food (dried) that has all the vitamins and minerals that a pregnant dog might need. Also, I would suggest looking it up on Google. Just put in what you are looking for and the information will come up. You can find many different brands and companys listed and they do have special ones for pregnant dogs.

You should consult with your vet on this. However, in my experience, homemade dog food made of meats and some vegetables is the natural healthy diet for dogs, and you should feed your dog homemade dog food. John Miller wrote a book on dog food recipes for different stages of a dog's life. More information on it can be found at http://www.homemadehealthypetfood.com

Nothing from the grocery store.
Corn and wheat are empty fillers and provide no nutritive value; may cause food allergies.
Wheat gluten and rice protein from China caused the recent recalls where so many pets died.
I'd suggest a premium food like Canidae; no corn or wheat, human quality ingredients from US suppliers.
An additional bonus is that it is for all life stages so the pups can transition onto it when they are ready for solid food, as well.

One with no excess grains and fillers. Science Diet, Eukanuba, Purina, IAMS, Pedigree, etc are NOT appropriate foods. They have way too many fillers and mystery meats. I feed raw, but good commercial brands of kibble are Innova EVO, Chicken Soup, Canidae, California Natural, Nature's Variety, Merrick, etc.

Candiae all life stages is the best you can give your expecting mom. Then she can eat this all the way through her pregnancy and when nursing also. even the pups when they get ready to start to eat food can eat this also.
Excellent food for all ages.

I would highly recommend, Canidae All Life Stages. It has No corn, wheat, soy, grain fractions, fillers or by products, is human grade, and is naturally preserved.

RAW meaty bones and organs from a variety of animals, also an egg and red fish once a week and green tripe.

Purina ANYTHING is crap. Look at the ingredients people!! You may as well feed crap on a shingle sprinkled with cheap vitamins.

You should feed a pregant dog a good quality puppy food until she is done weaning her puppies. Puppy food has the necessary protein and extra nutrients that a pregnant and nursing mama needs. Good brands are Science diet, Eukaneuba, Nutro, etc. Ask the pet supply store for other good brands. Don't go with Iams, they were recently slapped with fines for animal cruelty during studies they have conducted.

I would try the soft canned stuff, we switched to Pedigree after that dang dogfood poison thing.
but what I found out is that the soft canned food is easier to digest, and is easier on the kidneys because it has more water in it, compared to dry.
But you might want to use your regular stuff, but add in somr "puppy" food soft "Pedigree" with the hard food.

That way you won't need to change the food completely to upset the dog.
And people food is ok, it only they don't burn off such high calorie food, so they get fat.

good luck, hope the puppies are cool little snot nosers. hehe.
