it wasnt our fault that the dog crawled under MY fence. our dogs DONT have to be put down and we dont get fined.. the animal control went in the backyard and examined it made sure it wasnt bitten and cleared it up that it wasnt our fault..

I don't know where you live but they might take your dog away for that. I have heard of them putting dogs to sleep once they kill another dog. How do you know the dog didn't bite the other dog when you didn't see it?

It's possible he grabbed the Yorkie without breaking the skin but hard enough to crush. He could have grabbed it by the head and shook, breaking its neck.
Do not tell the authorities that your dog killed the Yorkie - you do not know that and are assuming. Tell them exactly what you know - you found a dead dog in your yard and neighbors heard yelping. Without external wounds, your GSD's life might be spared.
Also, dogs are not people. Even if he did kill the Yorkie, he is not evil. Dogs do all by instincts and many of their instincts do not mesh well with civilized life. Have your dog evaluated by a veterinary behaviorist and if there is a problem with an unmanaged prey instinct, do the recommended training because if he did kill the Yorkie, any small animal could be in danger.
Hope all works out for you. I also hope the Yorkie's owner is known and has been informed because this may have been someone's loved pet.
Didn't see the details - probably crossed in the mail. Looks like you and your dog are in the clear legally. For your own peace-of-mind, I still recommend an evaluation. It very well could been an accidental death or the dog could have been hit by a car, or kicked, or any number of things. If it is eating at you, do what you need to do to get closure.

There are a couple of possibilities here. One would be that the Yorkie was already injured and dying when it came into your yard. One common cause of bleeding out of the mouth is when the ribs are broken and have punctured the lungs--this can happen when the dog is struck by a car.
Another possibility is that your German Shephard crushed the Yorkie's ribs without biting him.
Since the dog came into your yard, it shouldn't be your fault. But because you don't know for sure if your dog did the killing, you should be careful if you take him anywhere or if anyone visits--watch for aggressive tendencies toward other dogs and people.

OH, YOU POOR WOMAN! I so feel for you. It must be dreadful. I wish there was some way to make you feel better about this. Heaven only knows how the Yorkie was so gravely wounded and you do know that your dog was only defending what was his. A German Shepherd is a very loyal and loving FAMILY animal who would stop at nothing to keep his family from harm. He was only doing his job. Now there is all this flurry of activity and he is probably very confused.
I hope that you will get the answer you are looking for. In the meantime. IT WAS NOT YOUR FAULT. DO NOT BLAME YOURSELF OR YOUR DOG.

I totally understand how you feel, i have an irish staff who almost killed a neighbours hungarian puli, he sufocated the puli until it passed out by holding it around the neck with his mouth, he didnt puncture the dog he just stopped it breathin until it went limp, it took all my strength and determination to get my dog to let go, it was so horrific to be put in that situation, my dog was not destroyed but was listed on the dangerous dogs act and if he commits another offence then legal proceedings will follow. you need to be very careful with your gsd from now on and never trust him with other dogs, i know its hard but you should consider using a muzzle when in public as a dog who has done this kinda thing almost certainly will do it again. display a "guard dog on site" warning on your property so that your comunity know that you have a big ol dog behind the fence, and maybe they will have the savvie to keep their dogs on a lead. you will feel like crap about what happened but jus try to remember, dogs do what dogs do, dont stop loving him as i bet he loves you no matter what. its not your fault jus let it be a lesson that he is capable!! take care you'll feel better soon :)

I think it could be poison or playing.
I have a little daschund and used to play with a rottweiler when the rot was a puppy. Then couldn't play anymore because of the size. The rot, with only one leg, hurted the tekel. Thank God nothing happened, but my tekel was crying a lot.
So maybe your dog pressed the other in the stomach or somewhere that caused the internal bleeding.
Is very painful what happened, but please, go on.
And never forget they are animals, no matter how much we try to make them humans.

ok, first of all, they put dogs down who bite people in a vicious way. not other dogs. and second of all, you cant blame your german shepard for internal bleeding, unless he somehow managed to beat him up. ((very doubtful)). And about your nightmares, just talk it over with someone you trust, and talk to the yorkie's owner. it might help you understand a little further.

the yorkie could have been dying and wondered into your yard. animals that eat rat poisoning bleed internally since rat poisoning is made from coumadin which is a potent blood thinner. their body bleeds internally and then they die. no external markings. call animal control and they will pick the dog up and dispose of it.

Hon, sorry that you had to see this!!! My best gyess would be that they were playing and with the size difference your dog just got a little to carried away.
As for the nightmares I would definately talk to people about what you saw and felt.

They could've been playing and the German Shepherd could've crushed it's bones or something, yorkies are only about 5lbs and GSD's are alot more..
