Why do people say "Sh*t zoo" instead of how its properly pronounced "Sheet Zoo"? Even people that own them don't say it properly. Same with Bishons. People call them Bich-ons. When you look at the spelling of Shih Ztu, were does it look like "sh*t" is in there?

Why do people who breed German Shepherds spell it Shepard or Shephard? Because they didn't bother doing enough research on the breed before getting one. It isn't hard to look up the correct spelling or pronunciation of a dog's breed but some people just don't make that effort.

Well for one thing the word is Chinese so the romanization from the Chinese characters can be variable. In the past the two major methods for romanizing Chinese characters were Wade-Giles and Postal Guide. Nowadays Wade-Giles is exclusively used. Beijing used to be pronouned payping now it is bayjing. Shih is really pronounced shir in Wade-Giles. The tzu is pronounced zoo but with a hard short Z. Having said all that it really doesn't matter much as the breed name should be pronounced however the national breed club pronounces it. I've heard it mostly pronounced as sh*t zoo at shows. I didn't help did I?

People like to be stupid and childish by saying Sh*t on here when it's not appropriate. A few other ones that I regularly see here;
Chiwawa - Chihuahua
Bishon Friz - Bichon Frise
MinPin - Miniature Pinscher
Yorkie - Yorkshire Terrier
[coat colour] Lab - Labrador Retriver (I mean when it sounds as though a Chocolate Lab is a breed)
Dashond/Daksund/incorrect spelling - Dachshund
Terrior - Terrier
Dalmation - Dalmatian (makes it worse considering I'm a huge Dal lover)
Huskie - Siberian Husky
Shepard/Shephard/Sheperd - Shepherd
Doberman - Dobermann
Should I go on?

shih tzu's acceptable spelling is also Shitzu which causes a lot of the pronounciation differences. Some people get confused when they see the Shi* in Shitzu

Its like toe-may-to vs. to-mah-toe.

neither is really wrong, its going to fall on preference.

Some believe the differences in pronounciations start from the way various accents pronounce the words.

But still, what matters more than saying Sheet zoo vs. Shi* zoo is how these dogs are cared for.

I'm more worried about that than minor speech differences.

It is Bichon Frise' and Shih Tzu. If you can't spell them right, then how do you expect people pronounce them right?

Shih Tzu is pronounced... She' dzu or sheet-sue
Bichon Frise is pronounced.... BEE-shon Free-ZAY

EDIT" Aravyndra is right. It does not really matter how it is spelled or pronounced as long as they are well cared for.

Because it's more fun to say Sh*tzoo then it is to say sheetzoo. LOL
I actually saw an add once where some idiot bred a bulldog to a Shitzoo and called it a bullsh*ts...

ps. I do realize the spelling is wrong here.

There are MANY breed names that are commonly mispronounced & misspelled.

Think of Chihuahua. Commonly misspelled.

Weimaraner. Both misspelled & mispronounced.

Bichon is the spelling, which is why it's mispronounced.
