When we bought my dog we were told he was a straight labrador cross poodle. But we were looking at calenders and he looks nothing like the labradoodles, but everything like a goldendoodle (golden retriever cross poodle). Is there anyway that we can tell for sure?

Unfortunately with mixed breeds you can not guarantee what the pup will look like and there really is not a way to tell for sure.

With such a new breed, it is hard to tell for sure because one labradoodle may inherit more of the poodle's traits, while another may inherit more of the Lab's traits. When you are mixing two totally different breeds like that, you never know. I saw a dog once that was half blood hound and half german shepherd. One ear was long and floppy like the blood hound and the other ear stood straight up like the shepherd's!! Until you breed Labradoodles for quite some time and are able to have a breed standard and only breed those standard Labradoodles, you will have unpredictable results.

How do you know he doesn't look like a labradoodle?? What do they look like?? They could be any number of combinations of the two dogs. You have no idea what you are going to get when you mix breeds like that.. so it's impossible to say that you dog doesn't look like a labradoodle.. They have no standard, there is no consistency in the breeding, you get what you get.. They are mixed breed dogs, you don't know what you are going to get, other than a mixture of the 2 dogs, IF they were both purebred dogs.

they may not have known the difference between a lab and a golden retriever. it is sometimes a common mixup. if you got him from a breeder, you should have asked to see the parents before getting him. the people you got him from may have messed up, but maybe he is different. don'ttake it to heart, people mess up all the time. if you plan to get rid of him just because he is the wrong breed i would suggest doing that and not getting another dog.

A cross breed. pne never knows.. Labs ,some are Black, but the retriever are of the red to gold shades. All are lovabe. Maybe a vet can tell u, I myself would not worry about it. Just love HIM or HER and forget it. You are not going to show her as a show dog. so forget it and enjoy your pet. Luck to U ..
