I just got a Boxer puppy a few weeks ago. Whenever I come home, he is so happy to see me, his tail goes crazy. I am just wondering why that is.

I just got a puppy, he's six weeks. I went to my local feed store and got the shots, one is an 8-in-1, the other a 7-in-1. Which do I give first??? (and yes, I'm a trained professional at giving shots...Own a cattle ranch and give shots all the time)

In august at a local show. I also intend to be the one -to- show him. We'll also start doing obediance trials (at chetco's suggestion, actually. Thanks, chetco!).

My question is: Anyone know of a really nice website that has beginner-based lists of things to bring? Lingo? Etc? I know some here and there, but somewhere to start and extend my knowledge within the next few months would be lovely.

Links are awesome. Thank you!

My dog went outside yesterday morning and when I went back out to get her she was sitting right up next to the house.
Her tail between her legs... she looked very sad. So i brought her in and checked her over- no sores of anykind... She is now following me around the house. She does not whimper or hurt so to speak when I touch her anywhere, but I did notice her upper leg seems to be rather tight and swollen... Could she have pulled a muscle... It now takes her a few seconds to sit down, but she does not really baby the leg when she is walking... Any suggestions? Baby Aspirin? She is 65lbs Beagle/pointer mix. Thanks for any help!

I just had my 12 week old boxer's ears cropped. They put one of those cones around his neck to keep him from scratching his ears. They did not tape the ears or anything else. Should his ears be taped?

I have noticed that alot of people on here say "no dog should be around kids, any dog can snap anytime" While it is true that any dog can be aggressive it is also true that any dog can be trained and socialized so that they are excellent with kids. I have been around dogs my entire life.. since I was a baby playing with my family dog on the floor, I have never been bitten and I have never been snapped at by any dog belonging to and trained by my family and friends. Siberian Husky, Bouvier, Springer Spaniel, Labs, Malamutes, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Mutts, Chows, American Bulldogs... the list goes on. I have lived with over 14 dogs in my life all of them around children all the time and not one of them ever hurt a child or an adult for that matter.. I just dont understand the attitude people have that all dogs will eventually attack children, its untrue and frankly idiotic. Keeping children and dogs apart increases the risk of a bite.. Kids need to learn about dogs and vice versa.

Is this normal? I have never owned a female dog and so I am still learning about them. She just went through her first heat and I kept her locked up but the male dog broke into the dog runn and I found them

I want to choose from the smallest dog breeds. Just plain small dogs, toys, or teacups.

I prefer dogs with smooth or short hair. That means little to medium grooming.

No chihuahuas!!

I've narrowed it down to these breeds so far. If you can come up with more I can consider that would be great!

beagles-standard/pocket
boston terriers
dachshunds-standards/miniature
jack russell terriers
manchester terriers
miniature pinschers
norfolk terriers
(toy) fox terriers

If you can tell me any interesting information you know about these, or new, breeds that would be good.

I've looked these dogs up. But I still want as much information as possible.

I'm concerned about knowing health issues these breeds may have.

I don't have any children so I don't need a dog that's good with kids or other pets. But a loyal watch dog type would be great.

I'm looking for a dog that likes to cuddle and show affection.

A minimal barker would be best but not too important.

Thanks for any info you can give.

The vet says she would not tolerate the surgery. My kids dont want me to put her down. She is in pain and cant walk with three legs because her joints are fused. Articles say that splints dont work and bandaging can make things worse.

I have two golden retrievers, 7 and 9, who are otherwise healthy and happy. One is anorexic, but this is not new. I keep getting flagil from the vet but I need natural choices. I can't keep going to the vet for meds that don't work.

My whippet has always had an ongoing problem with her teeth which has been treated in the past with extraction and dental clean etc.
Shes too ill/old to risk an aneasthetic now and her gums are bleeding and her teeth look and smell awful. Apart from brushing them, can anyone suggest another way of dealing with the problem.
I much prefer 'natural' remedies but will try any suggestions.

I recieved two questions from two different members in the Dog section, I emailed my reply but the emails were returned.

Both questions were answered but returned by MAIL DEMON.

One question was about a Bichon being clipped.
The other about a behavior problem.

Does any one know why the email would not go through? I want to help these two but I can't get my answers to them.

Both these people had good questions & need an answer.

What's going on, does anyone know?

All dogs are wonderful but I'm partial to longcoat Chihuahua's. My little boy is very social and a big love bug to everyone...to the point that he ignores me when people come over. lol

What's your favorite breed and why? :o)

my dog growled at him. Why did he growl. I feel he is untrustworthy now. Should I take this beast to the shelter or leave him outside with one giant pan of water and food, or keep him in the kennel all day then complain when he potties inside there?

There's not much detail I can give except that his nose is bleeding. He keeps licking his nose and blowing out and I know it's because he has a bloody nose. How can I stop it and why does he have it? It's not like, bleeding like crazy, but it's a small amount of blood that keeps trickling out of his nose. Please help!
