First off take the dog's temperature. If it's normal then you could try canned pumpkin (plain, not pie filling). I don't like to use human meds unless I know the dosage. I never use Pepto Bismol anyway, I've used Kaopectate in the past.
Also if it's bad diarrhea, pull food for 24 hours then start on a bland diet: boiled rice and cottage cheese for 3 days, then blend dog food with bland diet for another 3-5 days till back on dog food. If diarrhea does not stop quickly, then go see the vet....dogs can become dehydrated fast.
If the dog vomits along with the diarrhea GO SEE THE VET !!!

The vet may recommend Pepto for an upset stomach, the dosage goes by the weight of the dog so you'd need to call them for that.
They may also recommend withholding food for a day then going on a bland diet of boiled rice and chicken (or beef or cottage cheese) given in small amounts throughout the day.

As far as diarrhoea goes, it is OK to give him Kaopectate. Kaopectate is better than Pepto as it absorbs poisons better. Give him a children's dose about every 4 hours. The best way to do this is to put the dose in a turkey baster, and sick it at the back of his jaw line between his gum and lips (don't shove it down his throat!) and squirt in a bit at a time. As others have mentioned, put him on a diet of steamed or cooked rice mixed with a bit of chicken broth for a couple of days, then gradually add his regular diet back into the rice/broth mixture.

Instead of "people remedies" take the dog to the vet to see what is causing the diarrhea. My vet prescribes metronidazole. Does the trick in just one day and is not very expensive.

Depends on the cause of the diarrhoea, which you won't know without seeing a vet. If he's got an infection then just trying to settle his stomach won't do anything - it could be a problem with his intestines.
If he develops other symptoms, especially vomiting, do not hesitate to get him to a vet.

NO NO NO! Don't ever give a dog human medicine! You could complicate the problem and make it a lot worse. Dogs are sensitive to some of the ingredients that they put in human medicine. To be safe I would make sure your dog is getting enough water, they might be dehydrated. If it doesn't clear up in a week, take the dog to the vet where they can prescribe dog medicine :)

When my old dog would get sick like that, we always gave him plain white rice (cooked) with a little bit of ground beef with the fat and grease drained off. That normally helped him. Good luck!!

Take him to the vet. It could be worms--my cat had worms, and her ONLY symptom was diarrhea. If we hadn't taken her to the vet on the Friday we took her, she would have been dead by the time they re-opened on Monday.
