Is this true? Well, yes and no. When we talk about the cleanliness of a mouth, we're really talking about the amount and type of bacteria it contains. The kind of bacteria found in a human mouth and a dog mouth depend on what's been there recently. But insofar as a clean mouth means one that is less likely to cause disease, consider that germs tend to be species specific. Harmful dog germs are usually harmless for humans, unless we're talking about rabies, a disease that affects dogs and people in equally damaging ways. But generally, humans are immune to most dog germs. Likewise, human germs probably won't harm a dog.

In comparison to other animals, dogs actually do have the cleanest mouths for the most part. But as for having the cleanest mouth, NO species has a "clean" mouth. There are always things in every mouth but most are not harmful per say. Human mouths are actually the "dirtiest" of any species. Gross huh?

No, it isn't true.
I think this belief may have come from the idea that humans and dogs have different types of bacteria naturally occuring in their mouths.
Think about it - you brush your teeth every day (hopefully) - a dog doesn't! Generally, their mouths harbor much more bacteria than ours. You only have to smell a dog's breath to know that. This is why it isn't advisable to allow dogs to lick their wounds - they're risking infecting them.
I let dogs kiss me too - but I do know I'm being gross!

Dogs mouths have just as much bacteria as a human's mouth but the bacteria is SPECIES SPECIFIC. So, while the dog's mouth is not actually "cleaner", the bacteria it contains is more likely to infect another dog than a human.

I let my dogs lick me, but not on the face - Anything that licks their genitals is NOT kissing me on the lips!

dogs lick the poo off their own a** and you are letting it lick your face?!
eeiiwww!!!!
BTW.. while most are species specific, there ARE some bacteria, parasites and virii that dogs and humans can catch off each other.
besides that, if the dog has a human disease in his mouth that he cant catch, doesnt mean he cant pass it on to you.
