I recently bumped into a little dog in the neighbourhood who barked fiercely and ran toward me... No one was around to fasten him.... I almost hit him with my large umbrella, but I was afraid I would be sued..

Another time, I met a pitbull in a public footpath and he growled at me. the owners were camping nearby but let him loose... Is it an offence to wound or kill an animal in self defence?

I have a 5mo. old Husky and currently feed him Orijen. I would like to try the raw diet on him and see if he likes it (I am sure he will). I have found lots of information, but a lot is contradicting. Anyone know how much I should feed him? He is 35lbs right now and 5mos old. What should I feed him...diet suggestions or recipes?? Please help! Thanx!!

my mom brought home a puppy this morning. She's an 8 wk old golden retreiver/great pyrenees mix. I know she's gonna get big, but thats not a problem for me. I'm used to big dogs, but I have no experience with either of these breeds. I've been reading up on them, but I don't know what parts are true, since in the AKC site it says females get to be up to 85 lbs, but on another it says females get to be up to 110. So if anyone can give me information on either of these breeds based on personal experience that would be great. Is there anything interesting or important for me to know? I'm used to training stubborn dogs (Pekingese and Pit Bulls), do these dogs need a more gentle approach in training? Are they easier to train?

I know its probably not a good idea to take on a dog I know nothing about, but I had no idea my mom was going to get a dog, and I do not want to take this puppy back because she was covered in feces, and I dont think she was well taken care of.

I have found an abused male boxer that I really want to adopt, but he is three years old, and has never been neutered. I don't know if he has ever been an inside dog or not. We would definitely have him inside, and he would be neutered before he was brought home. Do you think there is any chance that we could potty train this dog, or is he destined to pee on everything because he has never been neutered? Thanks!

My big akita very much enjoys apples, I have found. I cut one in halg and gave it to her....with the seeds in it. Do you think she will be okay with it. This is a very silly question, and I believe she will be fine. But they are Granny Smith, so the are pretty tart.

I have 2 month old shar-pei puppy. He is so hyperactive. Sometimes I'm too tired to run with him. I really would like to show him how interesting may be for him to play alone with his toys. Unfortunately when I throw him a ball he is not interested at all. Actually I think he doesn't like any of his toy balls. Any tips on how to make them interesting for him? By the way I tried to leave them where he sleeps or with his treats. It doesn't seem to help :-(

My friend has about 12 acres of land in the country and wants a medium or not too huge dog. Its fenced and she wants something that wants lots of room to run. She's had lots of experiance with dogs (smaller/ medium) but doesn't know what to get. Any ideas from personal experiance.

just to let you know, most of that land is fenced and there is a dog run too.

Okay, I have a male boxer who is now about 15 months old. I bought him from a breeder without knowing too much about the breed in general, but it was love at 1st sight! Anyways, I payed $600 for him-AKC registered w/ papers. Last November I got a letter in the mail from the AKC stating that Rocky's(my dog) papers may be cancelled due to some kind of error in the DNA test they had recently done on a dog in his lineage. I called my breeder a few weeks later and she said she had no idea what I was talking about. I just recieved another letter stating that his papers are in fact cancelled because the breeder would not cooperate w/ the AKC, basically the AKC told me when I called them that most likely she used a different sire than what was on the papers, therefore my dogs(and his litter mates) papers are cancelled. My questions is--what can I do about this?!?! What would you do??

My beagle is about 2 years old now, is abn inside dog and he loves to wear his jackets when he goes "outside" or for car rides. I wouldn't put them on him if he didn't like them. If the dog doesn't care, why do other people?

*Jackets are where I draw the line, sorry no pants, shoes, hats, etc.*

We're thinking about getting a Schnauzer. I just want to know a little bit more about them. How are they good toward strangers and children? How do they behave? Are they difficult to train?
