This probably sounds like a silly question to some, and if so, please don't answer.
i have never had a dog and for some reason always pictured myself with a boy dog if i ever got one- even though i have a family- kinda like-my buddy.
but when checking with breeders there are some beautiful and great personalitied females.
can a female dog be a guy's buddy as well as a male?
thanks.

I WOULD HATE THE THOUGHT OF MY DOG NOT HAVING THE RUN OF THE HOUSE .
IS THIS JUST A EXCUSE FOR LAZY DOG OWNERS NOT TRAINING THEIR DOGS .

What are some low-cost ways to get my dog to have a ton of fun in his crate. He stays in there a few hours a day and I'd like to know he's having fun. Also, his cage gets stinky because of his doggy odor, I baithe him enough if not more but he still gets it stinky, how do I stop him from making it stinky. One last question. He has doggy dandruff and I don't know how to stop it.

I have a rotweiller and he's almost 4 months now...He play bites WAY TOO MUCH! i mean way to much. When he's hyper he does crazy and grinds all up on your leg and bites your shoes, socks and pants. I've been trying to train him to "Drop It" but he doesnt do it. We kinda threaten him with a hoola hoop (lol dont ask) but even that doesnt work. Any advice to a crazy needle sharp teeth mouthing rottie?

I have a black lab of about 140 lbs who recently tore a ligament in her left hind leg. She will need surgery. Until I get enough money to pay for this surgery she needs to stay relatively motionless to ensure that she doesn't do more damage. The problem is that even though she's about 5 years old she is very much the playful puppy and doesn't realize how big she is. She's always running or playing with herself not seeming to be in any pain, course maybe the pain pills are working really well. Anyway, any suggestions on how I can keep her stable?

hiya, my dog for the past 2 weeks wont eat his food unless i am there standing right nxt to him, constantly telling him to eat!! ive asked my parents and brother to feed him and he will eat totally fine, ignoring them. when its me, he'll follow me out of the room, wont eat unless i go with him to his bowl etc. past few days i thought i wud ignore it, so i closed the door on him, but he wouldnt touch his food, just stayed at the door, waiting. so didnt close the door, so he just sat near me. hes never been totally attached 2 me or anything. i do care for him the most, but he only shows this sort of affection, if thats wat it is, during meal times. any ideas why, and what i should do? im the one whos around most of the time looking after him, so i cant leave it to other people to do! thanks
p.s hes 9 months old, labrador, n has never shown any favouritism in the family!

Do you crate your dogs? Or are they uncrate trained?
I was discussing my dog's good behavior with some dog enthusiasts, and when they found out that my dog is not crate trained, that started accusing me of not caring about my dog's safety. They even asked why I even have a dog if I am not going to take care of it properly.

I am pretty irked by this, because my dog is very safe - and I never heard of any laws saying my dog needs to be in a crate.

What are your thoughts?
I have since stopped associating with that group of dog "enthusiasts."

Hi all I will like to know how come the American pit-bull are the dogs being banned all around the world from owning and breeding from biting people, and aggression, when these dogs are not an aggressive breed they were made for hunting and fighting other dogs and to be friendly to there family and even strangers I don’t understand this?? Some people say its cause of neglecting and poor handling how can that really turn a dog into aggression or even make a pit-bull a guard dog when they were not made to be guard dogs? I just don’t understand how a dog can just turn on strangers just from being neglected if this is so then every dog can be a guard dog even without guarding instincts how is that possible.

So if I buy a poodle and just leave it in the back yard and neglect it will it be aggressive now lol I don’t get it?

I adopted my dog from the humane society about 1 week ago. They said she was a pit bull. I am just wondering if you think she looks like a pure breed? Or a mix? She is 47 pounds. There are pictures of her here: www.dogster.com/dogs/490160

What a load of great people there are out there! Thank you for making me feel better about putting my gorgeous dog through this horrible experience. She was spayed yesterday, spent about 24 hours feeling a bit groggy and sorry for herself then, suddenly, at about 3 pm, wanted to play! How lovely to have my girl back!!

Hi I have two 3 month old yorkshire terriers and can't seem to house train them. I take them out to the garden every hour or so but they just won't do anything for me to be able to praise them. Instead they wait until they come into the house to do their toilet. What should I do?

I have a female English Mastiff.... This is the first female dog we have owned... I don't wanna hear all the stuff about "always spay and neuter"... that is not why I posted this... Every other dog we have had were males, and we did get them fixed... and the pug we have now is fixed.... so I do my part... however.. my question is this: Is it better to spay from the beginning, or wait until after a litter to do so??? We do have good homes lined up if we decide to breed her with our friends mastiff.. and they do have papers... so that would be taken care of.. The thing is that we are thinking against breeding her because we know that she will not look the same... But I have heard stories about NOT letting a female have a litter and then she turns mean... and if you she does have at least one litter, then she will better.. Is this true or just a myth??? How will getting a female fixed affect her demeanor??? She is calm and well mannered now.. will she stay that way??
