I think it has more to do with people that don't neglect it, but rather than paying attention to it in a positive manner they do so in a negative manner.
Usually PitBulls will be a danger if they are trained to fight ot tortured by their owners.
Most breeds of dogs can be trained for guard dog duty. Dogs are naturally territorial, and if they are taught to defend thier territory with ferocity then bam you have a guard dog. It also depends on the dogs personality. Obviously, you wouldn't train a pomerianian or dockson to be a guard dog, but if they were trainable you could. They would be quite ineffective though.
Pitbulls are not made to be anything. They used to be breed to control/take down a bull. With that kind of breeding you must expect aggression to be normal. If you know how to turn that aggression toward something else (say a human breaking into your house) then you can train a Pitbull to be a guard dog. DOGS ARE NOT MADE TO BE ANYTHING. They are/were breeded to help with specific tasks (hunting, ranching, hearding, and sentry duty). Its not like there is a Pitbull factory somewhere. Over time thier bodies have become adapted to fine tune thier effectiveness.

YES, any breed of dog can become aggressive. ANY breed. But I think it is that the pit bull attracted a lot of idiots who wanted a tough looking dog to be an attack dog. And those few pit bulls who were treated badly, abused, neglected made all the headlines, and now people fear ALL pit bulls. But I personally have never met this vicious pit bull people talk about. I have only met sweet loving pit bulls. But I was attacked by a Golden Retriever! Who nearly took the right side of my face off. So any dog Can be abused or trained to becoming aggressive, and this banning of pit bulls is ridiculous.

Maybe I can help I work for PACC Pima Animal Control Center Pit bull like Wolf hybrids are feared and some people think just because one dog from one breed is bad all the rest are too. this is not true it lays in how the animal was treated well it was young. And like people someone are just mean well others are always happy it's just the way they are. The other reason is a lot of people take pit bulls and fight them train them to be aggressive. now Poodles are know to be mean. just like chows. I hope I helped if not I'm sorry.

I think people just by into the media and allow themselves to be brainwashed. It happened with other breeds of dogs some time back (dobermans, rottweilers).
People are just proving how sheeplike they really are. It is so sad, because my neighbors and myself own Pit Bulls and seriously they are they nicest dogs on the street.
The German Shepards next door are actually pretty people aggressive.
I have been attacked by a Pit Bull before, when there was a fighting ring nearby, but I am sure the attackers were trained to be mean. It does not fit their personality at all!

Yes, the poodle would become agressive. I've met an agressive poodle before, and I've been attacked by a Yorkshire terrier. It has everything to do with how the dog was trained and socialized. People are just picking on Pit Bulls right now becuase theyre the most popular dog so you hear more bite reports from them.

Actually yes. Neglecting a dog can most certainly make it aggressive. Even a pretty little poodle. If a dog doesn't get the proper amount of exercise it needs to expell its energy and the proper discipline it needs to show it when it's displaying improper behaviors, it will exert those energies some way, and usually, in a negative way. Aggression doesn't necessarily mean that the dog is mean, usually it stems from fear, which is a direct result of lack of socialization and lack of knowledge. Or, improper discipline techniques, such as hitting the dog for unwanted behaviors or scaring it out of doing something. If a dog is neglected, chances are it wasn't socialized properly and wasn't taught not to fear certain things, therefore, the dog will act out in an aggressive manner in order to protect itself. This is especially true for dogs, such as the pitbull, who were bred to fight. Pitbulls can be wonderful dogs as long as their owners know how to care for them properly. Many people make the mistake of offering it affection, and in many cases, they offer it at the wrong times, mistakingly nuturing any fears the dog may have. I, personally, have a pitbull, and she is the most wonderful dog I could ask for. However, I've seen many people who, due to lack of knowledge of the breed and lack of the proper training and discipline techniques, turn the dog into something quite untame. This unfortunately has given the dog a bad reputation, where in truth, it's the handlers own fault. Anyone who allows the dog to become, in his own mind, dominant in any sort of way, is allowing the dog the means to become aggressive. Even knowing the basics of dog psychology would have answered this question for you before you even thought to ask it. So in short, yes. A dog can, and in many cases will, become aggressive due to neglect.

People who ban dogs don't understand them and deserve all the consequences of their stupidity.
ALL dogs can be trained to be compatible in public, all you have to do is be responsible, intelligent pet owners.
ALL dogs can also be trained for guard duty, drug sniffing, assisting the blind, etc. Example: I have a black deutchhound that's about bite-size to any pitbull, but he's agressive enough and territorial enough that he's actually chased big dogs out of our yard. He responds to everything I ever try to teach him, and I'm not even a professional. I don't need to be rough with him, and he just thinks he's part of a family here. We've managed to tame his disposition so that he's affectionate with every human (and child) who comes in our door, and it really wasn't difficult.
The problem isn't with the dogs, it's with the people who own them. So you have to question either the sanity or intelligence of any government that would ban any animal unless it's a disease carrier. Governments that do this are weak in the ethics department.

I know what you mean. I have a Pit and she would make a poor guard dog (guess she would lick the robbers to death?) but she makes a GREAT play mate for my 2yr niece that lives with us. We even have 2 other dogs in the house a Morkie(Yorkie/malt) and a Curr dog and they get along great.
As to your question, Pitts have a bad rap and people do not understand them. When people do not understand something it must be destroyed. It is not fair to the dogs or they human friends.
I don't get it ether!

Sadly because too many irresponsible owners trained these dogs to fight and then when they don't need them anymore they turn them loose. Also some people buy pitbulls as a macho fashion statement and basically treat it like crap or pretty much neglect to discipline it at all. This also teaches them to become aggresive. By doing this they are creating a mentally disturbed animal and given a pitbull's natural strength you can imagine how deadly they can become.
And yes any dog can become that way if treated wrong but sadly pitbulls suffer the most from their infamy.

Aggression of any dog is the fault of the breeder and owner. If you breed "bad blood" dogs, you get what you pay for. If the owner does not properly socialize their dog, regardless the breed, you'll end up with a frighten, defensive dog who exhibit aggressive behavior.
