All dogs bark. If the pitch of the bark is your problem, then you need to go with a dog that has a lower voice...bassets, and larger dogs. If you want a dog that really barks only on rare occasions, you will have to look at the sight hounds, like the Basenji or Greyhound.

I personally love golden retrievers. They are great with people. They also do not bark a lot. My dog only barks when someone walks in the door but he calms down very quickly. I also have a goldendoodle but she barks a lot when she goes ouside because she is very territorial.

assuming your car is a sedan, I'd suggest a medium sized dog and probably a short haired breed if you have a large yard. I'd recommend a Labrador, as they have gentle personalities, are extremely loyal and very obedient, but they can be rather expensive!

alaskin husky. they are the most beautifullest dog in the world. other than that, probably a chowchow for protection or a labordor or a golden retriever if you want a smart dog.

Personally I love pugs and sharpei's... They are cute easy to manage, and they don't bark much.. they tend to stay to themselves... well, the pug can be a great lap dog.....
