my mom brought home a puppy this morning. She's an 8 wk old golden retreiver/great pyrenees mix. I know she's gonna get big, but thats not a problem for me. I'm used to big dogs, but I have no experience with either of these breeds. I've been reading up on them, but I don't know what parts are true, since in the AKC site it says females get to be up to 85 lbs, but on another it says females get to be up to 110. So if anyone can give me information on either of these breeds based on personal experience that would be great. Is there anything interesting or important for me to know? I'm used to training stubborn dogs (Pekingese and Pit Bulls), do these dogs need a more gentle approach in training? Are they easier to train?

I know its probably not a good idea to take on a dog I know nothing about, but I had no idea my mom was going to get a dog, and I do not want to take this puppy back because she was covered in feces, and I dont think she was well taken care of.

I would expect a female golden to be about 50 lbs, i would expect a female pyr to be about 85 lbs although they can get a bit larger. you may be getting conflicting information depending on what the dogs were bred for (the show ring or work). The golden side of the dog is going to be happy go lucky, obedient and (depending on the breeding) pretty smart and eager to please. From the pyr side you get a watchful nature, an easy going attitude but an instinct to bark at new or unusual things. Goldens are easy to train. pyrs can be more difficult because they are bred to work on their own, not for a person. i think choosing something like clicker training would probably work well although i've never tried to train our pyr who is a livestock guardian. It sounds like you've done some research and have some ability with dogs, i'm sure you'll do fine with this dog.
